College Student Grants Available Knowledge Base
What grants are available to college students looking to teach in South Carolina? I am a graduate student working on my master of arts in early childhood education. My degree will certify me to teach age 3 - grade 3 as well as mild to moderate special needs. I have already qualified for the TEACH grant, but am looking for others. I currently live in Ohio, but plan to relocate to South Carolina upon graduation, likely Charleston area. Are there any grants available that I might be eligible for or should look into? Thank you in advance!
Are there any grants available for college students? I'm starting college on the 5th september I am claiming income support with my partner because she is heavily pregnant and with me starting college I was wondering if anybody knew if there was any kind of grants or loans available for people in my situation?
Student college grants? My husband and I are both full time students and parents of 2. Does anyone know of any grants that might be available to help cover college? If we don't get help we will be stuck with over $120,000 in loans!
Are there any specific grants that will help pay rent and utilities for college students? I am a high school graduate this year, and I'm starting college at Blinn - Bryan in June.(They don't offer housing). I really need to be prepared to move ASAP but right now I only work part-time. When I move to Bryan I wont have a job right off the bat. Therefore, I'm going to need money for Rent and Electricity. What are some grants that are available for college students to help pay for what needs to be paid for...PLEASE HELP!
Are there college grants available for one who is part minority?(e.g.1/4Japanese and 1/4 Mexican)? The student's biological father is half Mexican, half Japanese, making her half minority. Her mother's ethniciity is western European, so the mother would not be considered minority. The student lives with her mother and a step-father. The household income does not qualify her for a grant, but the step-father is not willing to pay for any of her college. Therefore, she will not be able to go to college unless we find a way. I am grasping for straws. I am the maternal grandmother. The biological father has not been present in her life and also will not pay anything. Child support is not available for her after age 19. Although laws in MO provide for child support through college, the state of Colorado where the biological father resides will not enforce it.
Grants available to NY college students!? Help? I've been living with my step-dad and my mom for a few years now, after my dad moved away to be with his new family. A friend of mine had a grant last year and he made 5k a semester through it. This amount was for housing and food and such. The reason I am asking this question is because I need an escape, my GPA is a 3.8 so far (not to shabby right? Step-dad doesn't seem impressed tho), but I feel like this will suffer if I cannot get out from under his thumb. My step-dad is verbally abusive and cold, I really don't need to listen to his tone of voice any longer. Studying is difficult when you are constantly being harassed about nonsense. I know there must be something out there to help me out. I'm not so much interested in the dorm life though, I'm more of neat freak and I feel like the lack of privacy would be a concern also. I look forward to seeing your answers! Thanks so much :D
Financial aid or grants to help house college students? I'm going to a community college, which doesn't provide housing for students, and I'm recieving financial aid for school. The problem is, school and work are almost an hour away. I'm thinking of moving closer to school and work to save money on gas, but only have a minimum wage paying job. I have considered sharing an apartment with someone, but don't want to live with a stranger. All of my friends are married, and don't know my coworkers on a level where I would feel comfortable living with them (I know I'm being picky). My stepsister told me that there are programs and grants available to help pay for housing of college students. If so, where can I find the information about obtaining such help, and where can I apply?
Are there any grants available for low income families to help with housing? My family and I are in desperate need of assistance. We have a 21 month old daughter and are wanting to move back up to Indiana (currently we are living in KY with my mom and step dad which is proving to be a really bad situation.) I am a full time college student and my husband has been laid off since April of 2009. I can not afford to pay for some stupid website to "find" a grant.
What Are the Options for College Students? Okay, I have applied for my financial aid and all that. However, aren't there any type of student grants or scholarships that can be paid directly to the student towards the school of their choice? Or are the only grants and such available to the student if the check and funds are sent directly to the school on behalf of the student? My point is, where can I go online to apply for grants or funds in which I will be sent the check and in charge of where the money goes and etc?
College money that helps pay bills ect..besides pell grants/loans? Can anyone tell me how and what are available to students in college besides pell grants and loans, money for food, shelter ect...that you don't have to pay back, anything available for college students to help pay to go, live, expenses, ect...any info would really be appreciated...not scholarships either..thanks
Is there health insurance programs or grants available for adults earning a degree? I am 24 years old and I will be starting school to earn an associates degree as a paralegal. Are there any health insurance programs or grants or scholarships available for adults going to college? Since I will be a part- time student I can't work a full time job that would offer health insurance and with the cost of school accompanied by a part- time income my finances are limited .My school is accredited and I am only looking for coverage on myself. Why can't I work full time and go to school part time? Because I also have a two year old daughter and I don't want to spread myself that thin. You say 'plenty of people' do it but I know I am not superwoman. I am the only one raising my daughter and I don't want to take away from what she only has half of in the first place. I applaud 'those people' who do 'it all'.
What's the best financial aid available for college students? I'm thinking about going to a 4 year university, and a friend of mine is currently $40,000 in debt through student loans. I don't want to end up with that kind of debt, but I also want to better myself and further my education. What is the best solution? Is it possible to get a goverment grant to cover a large portion of the bill?
Atlanta Community College Tuition fee and grants? How many Community Collegees are in Atlanta? What is tuition fee for resident and International student? Are there any othere grants available in addition to Pell grant ? What is the requirement to be consider as a resident?
Are student loans and grants? Are student loans and grants available to those who choose to get a degree online? I am in a situation in which I cannot go to a campus, I have a seven month old son and a husband who works full time. I would like to get my degree online, but are there ways to get grants and loans even though I am not physically going to a college/university? **Not husband, fiance. I don't know if that makes a difference as far as getting money goes. I know that if I was married, I would have to count his income, too. Whatever works...
Options for a stuggling college student? I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of sources are available for affording college if you come from an underpriviledge family? I will be attending my second year of college which have been paid through grants but after 2 years, pheaa will no longer pay, only pell will. I would take out loans except my parents and myself have poor credit. I could work full time and go to school full time but then I am taking a chance of having my grades slip. Any suggestions?
Grants For College That Are Free To Apply For And Have A High Return Rate? I Attend A Community College And I Need Money To Help For Additional Cost Of Going To College Gas, Computer, Certification Exam Costs, And Most Importantly Getting New Form Of Transportation. I Need To Get A Car And My Question, Is There Any Grants Out There That I Can Apply For That Will Assist With This I Don't Need A Brand New Car Just Something Fuel Efficient To Get Me Back And Forth To College. In Any Event What Types Of Grants Are Available Within North Carolina Or Federally That I Can Apply For That Have A High Return Rate If You Will. I Need Extra Money For College And Student Loans Is Not A Option. I Receive A Pell Grant For My Books And Tuition. I Want To Make Sure I Take Advantage Of Everything That Is Available To People Going To College. I Am Only Looking For Free Ways To Apply For Grants That Are Fairly Easy To Do. If You KNow Of Something Please Respond Or If You Know A Good Place To Start Or Look. Please Serious Responses Only. And Thank You All For Your Time Thank You.
Would I Be Entitled To Student Loans At College? Im 23 and looking to start an access course into nursing in September, however i live on my own and was wondering whether i would be able to get student grants/loans to help with the costs, as in doing the course would mean i would have to go part time at work. However if i would not be able to access student grants/loans would there be any other financial help available to me?
Do you think government student loans increase the cost of college educations, when colleges get taxpayer $$? I'm thinking, this is similar to the housing market. Where the government encouraged and provided some funding for people who couldn't afford a home to get a home. Well, with a college education, now everybody is encouraged to go to college and get some scholarship with government money, but a lot of these students are not college material and also, we don't even need that many college students. There are only so many available college-level jobs. Only people who really qualify for college should go. But since the government and high schools have been encouraging everyone to go this does 2 things 1) Increases the cost of education, since college deans and presidents know that the taxpayer is going to pay for some of the cost increases 2) Wastes taxpayer-funded grants and scholarships on students who are never gonna get to use their degrees, since there are too many students going to college and because many students graduate with nonsense degrees like "Art History" which makes them no money afterwards.
What Kind Of Financial Aid is available for an US student to go to an International College? I live In California, and I got accepted to a college in London, England. But the money is definitely an issue, I am having an hard time finding an disability scholarship/grant/loan for studying abroad?? so can anyone tell me where I can look? or what I can do to pay for college and moving and etc..??? Personal experiences would help a lot. most useful information gets the 10 pts! THANK YOU!!!!
What are the benefits of being a married student? My boyfriend and I are considering marriage; we are both college students and we are curious if there are any benefits to being both married and a student. Are there any types of particular loans/grants that are available specifically for married students? Also, are those students automatically qualified for these so-called loans/grants, or is there another factor to receiving the loans/grants?
Will I be able to live off of college grants and loans? I am enrolled to start college this fall, full time. I have a couple learning disabilities that made me nearly fail high school, but now I have doctor's diagnosis of my illnesses and so the college says they can help me do better now. I have worked full time for the past 3 years since I got out of high school, but really want to focus as much on school as possible as it will probably take me a lot more time than the other students to do as well as I can. My FAFSA EFC is 0, and I live in Minnesota where there are state grants available too. I've got all my paperwork in and I am really anxious to see how much money they are going to decide I get for the year. I am hoping to get enough to take a lot more credits next semester(this semester I am playing it safe with only 13, want to see how it goes first). With a Pell grant of 5500, the ACG of 750 and subsidized student loans of 3500, that makes 9750...my tuition for the year will probably be around 6000 with books if I stay around the minimum for full time enrollment(12 credits). Is it reasonable to assume that I will even get the 9750? Or will i possibly still get a considerable state grant too? I am going to community college if that helps, and I live on my own(but still have dependant status). I would like to hear from someone who has had a very similar situation as me and could tell me what they got? I can live off of 6000 a year EASY(have been making around that most of the time) so I am just wondering if I can even hope for that? I hear so many students talk about how their aid doesn't cover enough, but they have cars and other amenities I don't count on, so I am just wondering if I might be able to swing it by working 10 hrs a week or even perhaps none at all. Thank you very much, I am sure you get a lot of questions like this, but any answers to my situation would be greatly appreciated.
What do you think of scholarships and grants based on race? I'm applying for college this fall and I've been applying for a bunch of scholarships and grants. Quite a few of the ones I'm finding are based on race, sexual orientation, etc. I don't know if it's just me, but I think it's highly unfair. One in particular was a grant for a First Generation college student with financial need. It was perfect except for one minor thing; you had to be hispanic to be eligible. I personlly think scholarships should be based on merit and grants should be based on financial need. I don't think certian ones should be available for black students only. I also don't think you should recieve one just for being gay. Does anyone else agree with me? I don't know about being a minority? I'm the only white chick in my neighborhood...lol. I was one of the few white chicks that graduated from a predominately black school. I don't know what you mean by "what you went through." The ony difference there is is skin color.
What Kind Of Financial Aid is available to go to College? I live In California, I'm dead-set on going to college In Massachusetts. But the money is definitely an issue, I've heard of scholarships, and grants, and student loans, but im really bad with all that kinda stuff, so can anyone tell me the differences between the three or what I can do to pay for college and moving and etc..??? Personal experiences would help a lot. most useful information gets the 10 pts! THANK YOU!!!!
What benefits are available to full time Scottish college students? I'm starting college in September and I'm a bit worried about how I will be able to support myself financially. I'm 21, live with my partner and currently work full time for BT but will have to give this up to be a full time student. I'm aware that my council tax will be paid but my rent is £325 each month and my partner receives a good wage however is in quite a bit of debt so cannot afford to support me completely. The minimum my job can offer me is 25hrs per week. This combined with full time education would be exhausting and I'm considering quitting my job. What kind of benefits would be available in terms of housing and would I be able to claim if I quit working? Thr prospect of grants, loans and bursaries continue to confuse me, even after hours of research online!! My friends are being offered money left, right and centre for being single parents and speak openly about having more than enough to be comfortable even as students. Their rent and council tax is paid and they continue to receive all sorts of credits and benefits payments to get them by. At the moment, it seems as though my only options are either to spend all day at college then all evening at work, or to quit work and struggle to survive?
What are some options and help available for a single mom wanting to go to college? I really want to go to school finally and get an associates degree in a multimedia program at itt-tech, but I am worried about how I could do it, I am a single mom of a 2 year old, so obviously I have to work, but if I was to work part time is there financial aid that I could also use for rent, utility payments and other things I would have to pay for while attending school? would I be able to do it between student loans and grants? I would love to hear from any single moms that have done this too, thanks to anyone in advance with advice and answers! so I could even not work at all while in school and get by on financial aid I would recieve? that would be great, considering I could finish school sooner by going full time, plus I would still have plenty of time with my daughter:)
I can't afford to go to college..? Well, the course itself is free... the problem is I'm currently living in Harlow, and the only college with the course I need to do is in Kilburn, this is going to cost me about £80 a week. The college has student housing, but this costs £120 per week... More than my parent's mortgage. Either option, there's no way me or my parents can afford this, I was wondering if anyone knew of any student loads or grants available to a 16 year old.. It would be far more practical for me to live in the student housing for the course (40 weeks full-time) and I would gain a lot more in my free time if I am in the area as the college holds student nights for performance (this is a music performance school by the way) as well as extra time using the schools facilities. I've been looking around but I can't seem to find anything so far... This college is the only place that offers the course I need to do, if I can't find the money to go then I'm going to drop out of education and get a job... which I really don't want to do :/ If anyone knows of anywhere I could get a loan or grant of about 6K (or a little less, my parents are prepared to pay some of the money... they just can't afford all of it) I could really use some advice... Please? ;)
I am seeking grants for college but...? First, please allow me to introduce myself and explain a few relevant things about me. My name is Christian, I am a 31 year old high school graduate with several children to provide for. I work 40 hours a week (Usually more) and I go to school full time. I also do not own a vehicle so I use public transportation. This adds a total of 4 hours of transport time per day to my already completely full M-F week. Other than Math, I am a straight A student (Working very hard on my issues regarding Math) I, like many others, messed around when I was younger instead of focusing on my future. After a long hiatus, I decided to go back to school and now I find myself very successful, and very interested in my education. Now that you know a little about me, you might be able to understand my dilemma. I have spent a great deal of time looking for grants on the internet to no avail. I was sitting at the local bus terminal with some fellow students awaiting the bus the other day, and a conversation broke out concerning the recently disbursed funds from financial aid. Coincidentally, one person was African American, and another person was Latino. Both of them started talking about the grants they were receiving and I was in utter disbelief. I am certainly not racist mind you, but after that conversation I started REALLY looking into grants, and found NONE for me. American Indians, African Americans, Latino, Women, and even Asians. No place for me? Nothing, because I am a white male? Then I realized something kinda ludicrous. I even imagined it something like this. GRANT AVAILABLE - WHITE MEN ONLY It doesn't even look right does it. It spills of antagonistic approach. After imagining this, I understood why there was no such thing. Its just not right, right? Even if it does say the same thing as the above mentioned grants for other groups of people. Nonetheless, this is my rant, and I was hoping out of it, some kind person might lend me some advice on looking for a grant for me, the white dude. Please?
need help with any money available for students at college? Hi I am 26 years old and I am currently a student studying 15hrs a week. I was on Job seekers allowance and I should be able to still claim it, as I am studying below 16hrs a week but they have suspended my money and I haven't got a clue when it will be sorted (its been 6 weeks now) I am looking for work too but its very hard at the moment and I have borrowed money from my friends but I can't keep this up, plus I can't ask for money for new clothes (been wearing two pairs of jeans for a month!!!) or a new bed mattress (springs have broke) as the money I am borrowing is travel for college and for my food. I am currently living back at home with my parents but they owe me money and will not give it to me. My parents are going through a divorce and just moan all the time so I find it hard to concentrate on work and can't sleep. My parents also have never shown an interest when it comes to education so they have never helped me and probably never will. I will get to move out next year when I go to Uni, and at Uni I know there is financial help available but I can't seem to find any help for students at college, the only finance help I did find was the Adult Learning Grant but because I am on job seekers I cannot claim it (but like I said its annoying because I am not receiving money from the job centre) I obviously don't want to stop studying but the job centre seem to have this policy of that if you don't want to work and 'better' yourself we'll give you the money but if you want to 'better' yourself to find work they would rather see you struggle. So basically I need money for clothes, a new mattress, for travel, and for food. Parents are no help, I have no family to turn to, friends can't fund me all year, and can't claim ALG while on Job seekers (but remember I am not receiving money from them). I also am not going to get a credit card so any help would be much appreciated. Help with finding out about loans, better places to look for work and if know about any way I can get away from my hell house would be great too! personally I wonder if it would be better to be homeless..........
Grants vs Scholarships: Where can I find GRANT information.? I have completed the FASFA. But I keep hearing that there are government grants available to help students pay for college. Where else can I apply or look? I've found many many scholarships, but no grant information. Government grants, private grants, individual grants...etc...
I am looking for scholarships or grants available to stay at home moms.? I am a stay at home mom and wife, and I am going to be taking classes online this fall to achieve my associates degree in photography. My husband and I live in subsidized, low-income housing and are not able to afford to pay for college, and I do not want to take out a bunch of student loans, I already I have two that the school set up through my fafsa, as well as a pell grant. I have been looking online with different scholarship searches, but have not found much. Most of the scholarships and grants I have found are not for my specific major, or are only available to current high school students. I have talked to my school, and they gave me a couple sites to check, but there was nothing that I qualified for. I don't need to work to have my bills paid, we are able to pay our bills on my husbands income. Photography is just something I want to do. If I was going to school to get a degree in something to make money, I probably wouldn't choose photography, but I'm not. I want actual answers on where to find these things, not people lecturing me on what I should and shouldn't do. I am smart enough to realize photography isn't a strong career choice, but I'm only doing it because it's what I like to do, not to make money. I feel you should have a job you enjoy no matter how little you make doing it. I don't want to put my son in daycare yet, and being a photographer will make it so I don't have to.
Please help; this is very important to me? Question about enrollment and government grants? I asked this question about 20 minutes ago, but am very desperate for an answer as soon as possible (no one is available to speak with me at the university right now as it is closed). Okay, so here goes (and I really appreciate whoever may read all of this and try to respond): I am a full-time college student. I have already received grants from the government to cover this year's enrollment fees. I am also filing taxes stating that I am a full-time student. There are two months left in the semester and I want to drop one of my classes that I am going to fail, thus taking away my full-time student status and deeming me a part-time student for the rest of this semester. The question: Will this affect my government loans? They can't take the money back that they have already awarded me (I'm assuming), but will there be some sort of penalty? Also, will this affect my tax return? Do I need to mention that I was a part-time student for two months? Does it even matter? THANK YOU! :D
Whats are the best College Scholarships/Grants that available for Med Students? I am a female who is looking for any Grants or Free money that out there, I am going to College to become a Med Student, but I seriously need some financial help in getting school paid for. I want to know if anyone know where I could get this help, I understand that deadlines are soon for alot of scholarships. I am very excited about to trying to get Loans but if I have to, but I am willing to go that route if I have to. I appreciate any help!!
Where can I find out about scholarships/grants for to my senior high school exchange student? She is from Pakistan, and wants to go to college here in the US. All the internet sites I know just list hundreds of potential grants/scholarships, but then she doesn't qualify because her parents don't work for Edison or Frito Lay, or something like that. Is there a source that has money available to exchange students? She is a straight A student. The high school guidance office has no clue. Thanks.
Will I be eligible for a student grant at the age of 17 for a further education course? I want to do a one year access course at London College of Fashion. The cost for the one year is 6.5k. At the age of 17 and being in further education, not higher, will I be eligible for a student grant still to pay for this one year and then a continued degree after that? I am asking this because I am worried that student grants are available for only higher education and not further. Thanks :)
I need information on obtaining grants for a college office.? I am planning on interviewing for a position tomorrow within a college office, and one of my main points is that grants are out there for the office to use, and grow. I am sure they are out there, but search engines are not a good tool to use, because you will end up with a lot of student resources, instead of for the college itself. I would really appreciate it if I could find a source of both Illinois, and Federal grants available to colleges and universities, as I am not very sure how to come across this information without the position itself. If a career placement, internship, graduate, or non traditional grant seems to come to mind, feel free to elaborate, as that is my main focus. Thank you for your help.
College Grants for 25 year old? I am 25 years old and looking to take some online classes from a community college. I am thinking just one class to ensure this is what I want to do and ease back into school. I was not a great student in high school. However I am wanting to know what grants may be available to me. I work full time and have a low-medium income.
Student Loans or Felony Grants for Felony Drug offenders.? Student Loans or Felony Grants for Felony Drug offenders.? I was cought with a bit of marijuana (I was not charged for trafficing) when I was 19 years old and I got 2 felony's F5's that cannot be expunged I was wondering what is available as far as financial assistance for college, or I have also heard about Felony Grants from the government does anyone know if that is available for drug offenders?
Do you think the current definition of a financially dependent college student is fair? Currently I believe you are considered dependent if you are not married, under 24, and not in graduate school. There are some other factors like if you are an emancipated minor, etc... But my question is, is this a fair way of calculating whether a student is financially dependent, or not? I mean lets look at two situations. Jennifers parents have a very low income. They've never been to college. Jennifer is a twin, so both her and her sister are in college. Because of this she is receiving grants and funding from the government. But in the end, she will be paying her education, not her parents. They don't have the funds to pay for it and never intended to. It will be jennifers responsibility. Now lets take the other girl, Mary. Her parents make over 100k a year. However they made some poor choices and are in a lot of credit card debt because they've always lived outside of their means their whole life. Now because they make so much money, Mary cannot receive any financial aid except for some small scholarships (not nearly enough) and a ton of high interest private loans. In the end, just like Jennifer, Mary will have to pay for her schooling because her parents in all reality, cannot afford to pay the student loans just like Jennifers parents. Do you think that Mary should be punished for her parents mistakes? Do you believe that either student should be considered dependent based on their parents ability to pay for their education? If we forget about the amount of funding that is actually available from the government and from the school, and we pretend that they for sure had the means to support every student who considered themselves financially independent, would this definition of a dependent student still be fair? What about Jane who is married but her parents are paying her way through school? Should she be receiving funds because she is independent.. just because of her marital status? Now I know that part of the problem is that there isn't a wealth of funding for higher education in the US, but still, putting that aside, is it fair how we evaluate students in such a black and white manner?
Drama College Help?!? Okay i live in norfolk and am 15 years old next year I'm looking to join a Drama college, Distance isn't a problem as i have family in essex and would easily be able to access places such as london and the surroundings. My family are telling me to attend normal college then join a top london school as this would give me time to save money ( About £3,500) But tbh if i can get straight into a school and get the experience then that's what i want to do, i know of a few, London Academy Of Music And Dramatic Arts, RADA, The Guildford School Of Music And Drama, Rose Brudford, Does anybody know of or attended/ing any other drama schools that take 16s +, i don't want a saturday school etc. i'd like a full time college. I would also like to find out about grants, My mum doesn't want me to take out a student loan as i'd be 16 and in debt, which i suppose is fair enough, But my mum is a single mum and on benefits, there is no way in this world she will be able to afford it. & i was just wondering if student grants are available and how to go about getting one? Thank You.
Trouble getting additional money for college to study abroad -help:-(? I am a college student who has used all available financial resources including federal loans and grants. I have been planning on going to Italy for 6 weeks to take 2 classes there. However, I've run into the problem that I am unable to get a private loan (as initially planned) to cover this venture. I've visited my financial aid office and don't know what else I need to do. I need between $10,000 to $13,000 to cover this! ....at this point I'm feeling doubtful of my trip:-(
Where can I apply for student grants? I went on the FAFSA website and filled everything out. I'm eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant of up to $5,350 ... that's great and everything, but the school I'm trying to get into is a minimum of $7,000 to get in and that doesn't include money for books and supplies. I have no money - the whole reason I'm trying to get into school is because the only jobs available where I live are college graduate-type jobs and it's been that way for over a year. Work is really, really bad in my whole area. Is there another type of grant I can apply for? What else can I do?
College scholarships for the non-traditional student? Does anyone know where i can find scholarships/grants for college that include the following?: * college aged student (higher end - 25/26) * does not qualify for pell grant/ or financial aid from the gov't/state of Michigan * health field (nursing/surgical tech...etc) for myself: * was not a veteran or in the military * no disability scholarships either * native american (but no waiver available) fafsa will not work for me. will have to pay myself if no scholarships available. already tried: scholarships.com & fastweb
Financial aid available to adult students at community college? I'm an adult with only a few college credits (non-transferable anyway). I am intending to attend a local community college once I've been a resident of this state for 1 year. I've been out of work for over a year now, and am not legally married. While I do own my own home with my partner, I do not have any other assets or income. What I'm wondering is, do adults in their 30s still qualify for financial aid grants? Will the fact that I own a home prevent me from getting any aid? Also I have a student loan from when I was 18 and dropped out of college. Do any of these things make me ineligible for financial aid? (not loans! I'm still trying to pay off my original one with obscene interest rates). Thanks in advance.
What options are available to pay for college without a co-signer for private student loans? I have been in school for just over two years now. I am receiving my federal aid, but it isn't enough to cover my entire tuition each year. My parents had been co-signing my private loans since I started school, but since the start of this economic crisis, they are no longer able to do it. I imagine some of the responses will be for me to get a job and make up the difference on my own, however, my husband is in the military, we are stationed on the west coast while our family resides on the east coast. I am a stay at home mom of two young school aged boys. The cost of childcare here would exceed my monthly take home pay and not leave anything left over to cover school expenses. Other than the endless, no guarantee, scholarship and grant search, does anyone have any other suggestions on ways to qualify for private education loans with no co-signer? Thanks in advance!
What considerations do parents need to make when having a college student, with regards to support and taxes? I have a son who will be entering college next fall. He has a series of grants and scholarships that will cover a portion of the cost. He is looking for a job for the summer to help with another portion. However, my wife and I are still expected to obtain enough money to pay nearly half of the cost. Right now, that amount is more than we have available in our budget. However, a future portion of an inheritance from my mother has been offered to my son, to cover the majority of the remaining cost. What I don't know is what considerations need to be made with regards to all of this, with regards to taxes, etc. Does this mean, because of the scholarships, etc. that since I'm not providing 50% of his support, he is no longer eligible to be considered for taxes? I will be providing insurance coverage, some money, etc. The problem with a one of those college fund situation is that there is a cap on how much can go into it. That cap is about 1/4 or even less of the amount he is going to need for school (boy, school is expensive these days).
Does this make sense with my Topic B college admission essay? I'm doing Topic B. It states: choose and important issue, either personal, school (related or political), or international in scope. Then, explain significance of that issue to yourself, your family, your community, or generation. * I talked about how the bad economy affects college students. And here is my essay: America’s Struggling Economy Ongoing financial problems have soon-to-be college or current students shocked as America’s plummeting economy is under a recession. With already high tuitions, college costs keep soaring resulting in middle class citizens’ burdens of finding solutions, usually done by federal funding of grants and loans. Job hunting is also less available to parents even if qualified because debt emphasizes and plays a crucial role in today’s economy (no money, no jobs). So, what is there to do? More college students are becoming frugal such as residing on campus, working one or two jobs, and only buying necessary items. After completion of high school, college is the next step for a successful future but rising debt prevents me from truly looking forward to it. Maybe preferring a community college over a university will help a bit but nonexistent mutualism between federal and state governments on the basis of money affects the amount I’ll be able to pay for tuitions. Instead of unequal power represented in federalism, shared tasks should be rightfully executed so people wouldn’t have to endure financial conflicts. Under the enumerated writings of the Constitution, advantages and restrictions could’ve limited Congressional powers or overall national government. During my four year college term, I hope the economy revives. Better laws and regulations distributed to citizens and government can be thought out more carefully and fairly so the word debt is far from trouble. Therefore, standard of living is experienced and appreciated through the eyes of Americans.
Are there any good scholarships/grants for returning students? I'm 21 years old and have been out of college for a year. I basically slacked off and partied the whole time and wasted my parents hard-earned money they provided for me to go to school. Now that I'm ready to go back I obviously have to pay for it on my own and I know its gonna be hard to afford. I was wondering if there are any grants or scholarships available that aren't based on my past GPA (it SUCKED)
financial help available for single moms in Michigan? I am a single mom and a full-time college student in Michigan. Our living situation abruptly changed a few days ago, leaving us homeless. Does anyone know of a program or grant that will help me and my daughter out ASAP? We appreciate any help! Thanks in advance!
As a father, would my child support payments decrease once I become a full time college student in the fall? Hello all - I am 30 years old. I am a father to one child, who is living with my x-wife. I am currently an electrician who has been laid off for 4 months due to the company that I used to work for going bankrupt and laying off workers. I am currently paying 450 a month in child support. I have researched all job options available to me, and I am very discouraged....the highest grade level I have ever achieved was my GED (been an electrician for 15 years). I barely can make bills each month NOW. I have been considering going back to school to pusue a bachelor's degree to help improve my financial situation and be a better influence for my son in regards to education. However, I have also done my research on educational loans and grants....the money barely covers tuition. Would it be possible to have my child support payments reduced while I'm a full time student? Thanks for the help!
Student loans for living expenses? I'm a full time Nursing student living in San Francisco. I work 32 hours a week and am paying for my school and car loan. I need help financially. I'm one of those people stuck in the middle - I'm not poor enough to qualify for school grants yet I'm not rich enough to pay all my bills off without going into overdraft sometimes. I just finished applying for FAFSA, but I would like an additional loan for college students who need $ for living expenses. Basically, I need a student loan that will help me pay for rent. Preferably a loan that will give me more than $7,000 for a year. FAFSA only gives about $5,000 for undergrads, especially freshmen under 24 (me). $5,000 does not get you very far, especially in SF. I tried applying for the collegiate loan at Wells Fargo, but I needed a cosigner and my cosigner was rejected. Does anyone know of any other student loans available? This is a long shot, but does anyone know of other student loans NOT requiring a cosigner? I need one designed for students living off campus. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you!
Will Obamas' Education Plan Take Effect This Year? With a new President in the White House, facing many issues. I know the Economy/War/Education are at the top of the list. What is Barrack Obama planning to do about Education? And how much is he planning to spend? I believe the current Pell Grant is $4,000 per student, isn't it? Will it rise? If so, how much and will it be available for 2009-2010 College Students? Thanks!
Is the Pell Grant available for Pharmacy School (without a bachelor's)? I do NOT have a bachelor's degree and was accepted into Pharmacy school my sophomore year. I had the Pell grant along with many other federal grants for my first two years of college. "Federal Pell Grants are direct grants awarded through participating institutions to students with financial need who have not received their first bachelor's degree or who are enrolled in certain postbaccalaureate programs that lead to teacher certification or licensure." http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/index.html
