Transferring grants and scholarships from University of Houston Main to University of Houston Downtown? I attended UH main campus for for 2007-2009, and I'm transferring to UH downtown this Fall. I currently have a Texas Grant Estimate and Undergraduate Tuition Grant at main campus, but they don't show up at UH downtown. Do they transfer later, or not at all? I plan to go talk with a financial advisor on campus in a few days, but any info would be helpful, thanks.

How do I get grants and scholarships to fund my education to be a Science teacher? I have two years left to finish my degree to be a Science teacher and am a single parent. I am having trouble finding grants and scholarships to fund my schooling. I would think as badly as Science teachers are needed that there would be ample resources. I live in Texas. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Where can I get scholarships/grants? I am a Psychology major, and I am looking for any major specific grants or scholarships available, I attend LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas.
How universities calculate whether you've been "over awarded"? Does anyone know how a university calculates whether you have been over awarded with financial aid and scholarship packages? I have been awarded financial aid of a Pell grant and a Texas grant through my university but I recently received a letter about a scholarship. I just want to make sure that I don't accept the scholarship and then have my grants decreased because of it. So I need to know the federal guidelines for "over awarding" of financial aid. Is there a limit that you can't go over?
wat grants and financial aid can i qualify for in texas so i can go to college? i have recently got out of the army, im 26 years old and only have taken a few college classes online but now that im out of the army i want to go to school. i have the GI bill and will get about $1000 dollars a month to go to school, but i also have a lot of bills and a son to take care of and i was wondering if anyone knew how many grants or scholarships i could also get to help out my finances so that i can still take care of my son and not have to sell my car just so i can go to school, if anyone can help me please do. thanks
scholarships and grants? what scholarships and grants are there for single mothers in texas besides financial aid?
How can I get more grants without paying a website to search for me? I already applied for my FAFSA and was awarded a Pell Grant but I need more grants to help pay for college. I found some websites that will help search for Grants that may apply to me, but they charge a fee and seem fishy. I am a hispanic university student in Texas, if it helps. Also, I am only interested in Grants, not scholarships. Thanks in advance for any advice.
College Universities Mechanical Engineering Degrees Transfer Financial Aid HELP!!!? Hello, I am currently in my first year of college. After high-school I immediately went to the local college in my town. Well after a semester at this college and now halfway through my second semester I have decided the college is not right for me. My major is Mechanical Engineering. I am from Texas grew up in Texas and now go to college in this same town in Texas. The college has its pros and cons. It is very cheap yet it seems with this cheap price you are being cheated an education with a number of professors not really caring. I am being awarded financial aid through Federal ACG - 1st Year, Federal Pell Grant, TEXAS Grant Initial. If I was to attend a college out of state would I still be receiving these or something of equivalence? My school runs about $20,000 a year that is really its only positive thing I am lead to believe if I go to another college I will be awarded more to make up for the cost of an more expensive university because as of now I am debt free, thanks to these grants and a few scholarships. What would be some universities not just in Texas but also outside of Texas that offer high education levels(good teachers) and offer mech. engineering as a degree. (the only college I am really not considering is texas tech...) Other than this any college within the United States that maybe someone has had a knowledgeable, safe(I hope people understand what I mean by safe...some colleges are truly bad in those terms.), fun filled college experience at or heard about. Any INFO. is really appreciated especially with the financial aspects.
scholarships for art student in Texas? I am a poor art student in Texas. I am looking for scholarships. I do not want to be in debt with a loan and its tough for me to get a pell grant. I need a good source of scholarships for a dedicated sculpture student.

Can a 17 year old girl work more than one part-time job in Texas? My younger sister will be 17 this coming summer (2010) and we'll both be enrolled in college. But during the summer time while we're not at school, we'll be short about 700 dollars a month and we'll both need to pick up an additional part-time job. I just need to know if my sister will be able to get another job to help cover rental/other costs, or if I need to find some other way to cover the costs. (We have already exhausted all other routes like scholarships, grants, student loans, etc...)
What are some scholarships, grants, or financial aid for students who have or have had cancer? My brother was diagnosed with ewing sarcoma when he was 15 and missed his sophmore junior and senior year due to difficulties with his disease. He did however graduate but since it was in his leg he has trouble getting around and at 22 he still lives at home with the family...he's now attending the local community college but has already takin' the extent of classes that he can and now needs to move on to a larger college [[possibly online courses]] to further his studies. He wants to be a radiologist. And now with my family paying a $450 dollar a month health insurance bill and sending me to college, we are far in debt and need some help in paying for his schooling. We live in texas and he wants to attend Texas Tech. So what are some good resource we can use to help pay for his college?

texas national guard and loans? Texas national guard says they will pay back federal college loans but also 100% tuition. Most colleges will give all leftover financial aid (loans, grants, scholarships) in the form of cash directly to the student. My question is since my tuition is being paid for can i take out the federal student loan through fafsa to have the extra cash for housing, etc. and will they pay that back? alright I have a loan of 5500 right now from my first semester of college so they will pay back all of that?

Texas Resident: Can I be an independant college student and qualify for Welfare/Wic/TANF Etc? I am 31 years old, and I think pregnant. I am fulltime in college and scared to death, honestly. I need to know if I would qualify for Welfare/Wic/Tanf etc. I know my income is low enough but do those programs exclude college students? I am independent and also on full financial aid/scholarships and grants if that matters. My husband and I are both full time students with zero income. Quitting school isn't an option, especially if I am ever to make a better life for myself and now my child. Thanks in advance for any advice on this matter. PS, I live in Texas if that matters. BTW I will likely be graduated by the time the baby is born, with a pretty nice income. I'd appreciate answers that were on that topic and not opinionated. Public assistance is supposed to there for those who need it. hoping someone can answer if welfare services will let full time college students apply and get welfare. Please help.

Is this a fair and proper use of tax revenue? Texas has an extensive program of tuition subsidies for higher education. In-state tuition at colleges and universities is considerably lower than that for out-of-state students. Loans, grants, scholarships, etc. help students to afford college education. All taxpayers contribute to this subsidy, even those without children or any probability of attending college in Texas. Is this a fair and proper use of tax revenue? Is there justification for this tax burden or should tuition cost be an individual responsibility? Are differences between in and out-of-state tuition appropriate? Should everyone be entitled to a college education? Can anyone offer more than yes and no questions? I'm writing an essay for my government class and I need opinions. Yes and no doesn't do me much for quotes. *That should say yes and no answers.
Teaching in Texas.? I am going back to school to become a teacher. What are some tips and stuff that will be useful to me. i.e. scholarships, grants, study programs, schools
Baylor or University of North Texas? Okay so first off I'm not asking you guys to decide which college I should go to I just would like to get more details information on it. I recently graduated from high school and didn't really know which college I would attend so I applied at a few including Baylor Univeristy [which i only applied to because the application was free.. I never really imagined getting accepted]. Well I got accepted to Baylor and they offered me about $17,000 in free money [scholarships, grants, etc.]. I wasnt really sure if I should go or not so I turned them down & now im attending a community college for this fall semester just to give myself more time.. I plan on transferring to Baylor or UNT next semester.. I personally would like UNT alot better but my parents continue to tell me that Baylor is a hard school to get into and I sholud take the opportunity. I have nothing against Baylor I've just head alot about the campus life [ like how they make freshman go to church every week and how srict it is] I dnt mind church but im not that deep into my religion yet and I dnt want it forced on me. Ive done alot of research on UNT and I see they have alot to offer me with less than half the cost of Baylor [oh yea money is an iportant factor because im the oldest of 6 kids and my parents dnt have college funds for any of us]. My mom thinks that im only looking at UNT because my bestfriend is goin there [I have 2 best friends and to be honest the one thats going to UNT is not my favorite bestie]. I guess what im trying to ask is for you to shed some light into Baylor for me and tell me is there truth to the forcing church thing and which college you would pick and why [even if i go to UNT ill prolly go to Baylors Medicine College for medical school].
How can I convince my family to let me go to Texas Tech? Tech is the perfect school for me. It has everything I need as far as academics go, and the price for a year is still a lot... but not near as much as I thought it would be. Seriously, though... Tech is PERFECT for me. However, my family doesn't want me to go there. They think it's too far away (7&1/2 hours) and they won't have the money as I was informed I don't have a college fund. If I don't go to the college they want me to go to (community college), they more than likely won't pay for it. So, I'm trying to get into the top 10% so I qualify for a bunch of scholarships and I'll definitely be able to go to Tech. It's really hard though, because my class is SO competitive. But if I don't get the scholarships/grants to go to Tech, how can I convince my parents to let me go there? Tech isn't really my dream college. I'm settling for Tech. My parents INSISTED I go in-state, and Tech is the only place I can find that offers everything I need academically. NYU is my dream school.
mom i want to go to college scholarships i can get? is there anything else i can get other then pell grants and financial aid....Single mother 2 kids i live in texas i just want to know what options are out
Does anyone have any information on how to earn money in order to get your Ph.D.? I have my B.S. in biochemistry, my masters in Deaf Education and Hearing Sciences, and I'm looking into Ph.D. programs for Deaf Education, Communication Disorders, or a related field. I was just wondering if anyone out there new of grants, scholarships, free money for people interested in getting their Ph.D.? I'm in Texas if that helps.
Hoping to go to College in Texas, I'm from Michigan.? I would like to move to College Station, TX and go to A&M University or possibly Blinn Community College. If anyone can email me with their experiences or regarding resources I can use for help with scholarships or grants, or student loans please let me know. Even job opportunities would help me. I want to do this next year some time so please help! I have no idea where to even go or do first. I need help fast so I can start preparing. So it's actually better to move to Texas for a year, then try to go to college after I'm settled and have a job and all?

Can I Use a Scholarship/Grant/Loan to pay my apartment rent??? I am planning to live off-campus because 1--i just decided to go to this one college (personal reasons for applying so late), and i'm automatically in because i'm salutatorian (woo-hoo) and they say top 10% is automatically in, and i think their housing buildings are full by now 2--their apartments cost like $800 (+ electric) monthly...while other apartments in the city go for like $400 (+ electric) YOU CAN TELL BY THE CHEAP PRICES THAT THIS IS TEXAS...LOL 3--the apartments at the college are technically also off-campus (but close to campus)...but the other apartments are close to campus also 4--would you go with the college provided apartments or the other ones? 5--can i pay rent on the $400 with one of the scholarships i will be getting??? also studio apartments go for like $300...should i go for one of those because i'm only staying at the school for 1 year then i am transferring
Student"s dad is a deceased veteran. She is receiving monthly S/S check. Does it stop when she is 18 yrs old? Two questions. My grand-daughter will be 18 yrs old in two months. She has been accepted for college at Baylor U in Texas. Does her check stop when she is 18 yrs old and is there any of Obama campaign promises about grants, scholarships, free college for all who want to go in effect now especially for children of deceased veterans
Grants for low income students? I'm a Texas college student with an EFC of 0, and this year I only received about half of my tuition in financial aid. I'm wondering if there are any additional grants I can qualify for. I do not have a cosigner on a loan and have not been able to receive scholarships. *** For the record, I have applied for scholarships, that wasn't what I was asking about, thanks.
In-state tuition for an out of state student? I'm currently going to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, but I'm looking to transfer to a better school. Tulane is is rather expensive and New Orleans isn't a great place right now. LSU would my most practical choice, but the academics aren't anything special. I would really like to go to University of Texas at Austin, but to out of state tution is $12,000 per semester! If I go for a couple of years that's around 50 grand. LSU would only be $2000 per semester. I've seen some states have grants to get in state tution. Can I get this for a Texas school? Would there be other grants or scholarships I could get to knock the price down? I also think it would do me good to get out of Louisiana for awhile. It would be a great personal experience to spend a couple years in Austin. Any advice would be great.
How much does my FAFSA cover when out of state? I am a current resident of Texas, and my EFC is 00000, but does this apply to me going out of state? I currently attend a community college and I don't have to pay a cent, but I want to attend a four-year university in Oregon, complete with boarding, etc. Does my FAFSA only apply to in-state tuition? (Because in Texas, one of my prospective majors isn't offered anywhere...) How far will it go, and what am I realistically expected to contribute? As of now, my two classes in college that I'm currently taking are easily covered- only a few thousand dollars, but with out of state fees, there is no way I will have to contribute nothing, looking at costs of $25,000+. I'm hoping to win many scholarships, so I'm not *entirely* worried, and with federal pell grants and loans, and hopefully a high-paying career to pay back my loans with... Please tell me what you know/what I should do.

How do I fill in the financial aid gap? I have received a Pell grant , a subsidized and an unsubsidized student loan, and it's still not enough to cover my tuition and room and board, let alone miscellaneous expenses. My parents are deceased and I'm going to a University in Texas, so I have no one to cosign a private loan for me. Also, I've applied for some scholarships, but because I've had to fund my education thus far on my own, working two jobs and going to school full time, it hasn't left me much time for extracurricular activities, sports, or club affiliations (the things a lot of scholarships use as criteria) also, I had a rough time last semester with my Calculus class and it dropped my GPA down to a 2.9, so I'm like a .1 point from gettting some academic scholarships. Is there ANYTHING else I can do? I really owe it to my parents (and myself) to finish school. It's a promise I made to my deceased mother. Also, I'm single so no spousal support either. Also, to the guy who asked about the community college..I'm attending a community college now, but I only have the fall semester left before I have to transfer, because I will be ineligible for any more student loans since it's only a 2 year college, and I've been there since the fall semester of 2004. So yeah, I'm trying to knock out as many of my general courses as they will let me first. I will only have about another semester of prerequisites before I transfer directly to my junior year major's program at the University.
Need info on MBA and which kind to get?! First college grad in family looking for info and direction! HELP PLZ? Okay, I know this is really, really long. But I desperately need your help. Please! I'm the first person in my family graduate college. I'm really interested in pursuing higher (grad school) education, but I really know nothing about it and have no one to ask about it. I complete my bachelors in Political Science at the end of next semester. I ended up majoring in it only because I'm interested in current events and one particular professor kind of encouraged me to do it. I don't regret it by any means, but given the knowledge I have today, I would have chosen a different major. If I have known anything about what majors are and what they actually mean, jobs that are available and future employment/income implications etc. I definitely would have gone with other interests I like equally, but would have been more beneficial in the long run. SO, I'm interested in getting an MBA. Mostly because I think I'd be really good in management and have an interest in it, but also because I'm not entirely sure what I want to do when "i grow up" and it occurs to me that an MBA will open opportunities without closing others. (as opposed to a public policy degree that would leave me screwed if I hated the jobs out there that were available). Also, given the economy, it seems like a solid investment in that I'll always have job opportunities. The problem is, I know NOTHING about getting an MBA. I don't know the best schools, or what the specializations available are. I don't know what the specializations mean in the classroom or as far as job opportunities are considered. I don't know what kind of GPA I have to have, how much it generally costs, if scholarships are available, or which are the best schools to attend. I don't know who to get recommendation letters from, or how many are expected. Is it ok to go to the school you got your undergrad at or better to attend a new school? How important are school ratings from financial times etc? How much time should I spend in the workforce before attempting my MBA? It seems like if its too long, I might lose focus and not go back. Too soon, and I'd lose the valuable work experience that would make the degree more beneficial and easily utilized. Any information or resources you have would be helpful! About my qualifications: I do know I have to take the GMAT (I plan on doing this next year). By the time I graduate I should have a 3.7 GPA from Southern Methodist University. I transferred from a community college and got a scholarship (i'm hoping for some sort of financial assistance/grants/scholarship for grad school?). I have no extracurriculars as I work 3 jobs to support my mother and myself while in school without incurring thousands in debt. I'd like to stay in Dallas, or at least Texas, but I'm not 100% attached. I know that I've heard SMU (my current school) and UTD have highly rated/good MBA programs. I was also looking at a MBA program UT has in dallas (but not through UTD). PLEASE HELP!
What are some specifics for college financial aid? I'm a sophomore at a decent public high school in Texas. I have exceptionally high grades (about averages a 97 or 98 in the most advanced courses available), I'm pretty sure I'll do great on SAT/ACT and I'm looking to do early planning for college (I'm pretty sure I'll go to UT at Austin.) I've been told "Fill out the FAFSA" and "Apply for stuff" but nobody has really given me any specifics. Basically I'm wondering what all grants should I apply for once I fill out the FAFSA? How do I get grants/scholarships from my SAT scores? What specifically do I need to do other for specific grants and whatnot?
Don't our troops deserve more than this? Are our troops thought of as merely 'throwaways'? Why so hard to help? those who sacrifice so much, including their lives? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ AP IMPACT: Army charity hoards millions FORT BLISS, Texas – As soldiers stream home from Iraq and Afghanistan, the biggest charity inside the U.S. military has been stockpiling tens of millions of dollars meant to help put returning fighters back on their feet, an Associated Press investigation shows. Between 2003 and 2007 — as many military families dealt with long war deployments and increased numbers of home foreclosures — Army Emergency Relief grew into a $345 million behemoth. During those years, the charity packed away $117 million into its own reserves while spending just $64 million on direct aid, according to an AP analysis of its tax records. Tax-exempt and legally separate from the military, AER projects a facade of independence but really operates under close Army control. The massive nonprofit — funded predominantly by troops — allows superiors to squeeze soldiers for contributions; forces struggling soldiers to repay loans — sometimes delaying transfers and promotions; and too often violates its own rules by rewarding donors, such as giving free passes from physical training, the AP found. AER was founded in 1942 to soften the personal financial hardships on soldiers and their families as the country ramped up its fight in World War II. Today, AER's mission is to ease cash emergencies of active-duty soldiers and retirees, and to provide college scholarships for their families. Its emergency aid covers mortgage payments and food, car repairs, medical bills, travel to family funerals, and the like. Instead of giving money away, though, the Army charity lent out 91 percent of its emergency aid during the period 2003-2007. For accounting purposes, the loans, dispensed interest-free, are counted as expenses only when they are not paid back. During that same five-year period, the smaller Navy and Air Force charities both put far more of their own resources into aid than reserves. The Air Force charity kept $24 million in reserves while dispensing $56 million in total aid, which includes grants, scholarships and loans not repaid. The Navy charity put $32 million into reserves and gave out $49 million in total aid. AER executives defend their operation, insisting they need to keep sizable reserves to be ready for future catastrophes.civilian charities for service members and veterans say they are swamped by the desperate needs of recent years, with requests far outstripping ability to respond. According to 2007 U.S. Census Bureau figures, 1.3 million veterans — or 6 percent — lived in poverty, with 537,000 unemployed. "I have so many people who are losing their homes, they're behind on their mortgage payments, they're losing their jobs because of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) or the medication they're taking — and the Army Emergency Relief can't help them," says Outreach Director Sema Olson at U.S. Welcome Home Foundation, which finds aid for combat veterans.
College advice, please? I'm a senior in high school in Houston, TX and I am graduating in June. I'm having a very difficult time deciding where to attend college the next year. My two choices are the Univeristy of Houston - Main Campus and the University of Texas at Austin. Here is my dilemma: UT is a lot more expensive than UH, but it is recognized as a Tier 1 school, meaning that it's academic standing is a lot better than UH. If I go to UH, they would offer me a lot more money in financial aid compared to UT because it's a smaller school and has less students to accommodate. So, if I go to UT, I would have to take out a lot more loans, whereas UH would give me much more grants/scholarships. The thing is that I'm planning on going to medical school after college. Medical school is very expensive and I will need to take out loans for that. What I want to know is, will medical schools honestly care where I gradute from as long as I have a high GPA/Rank and good MCAT scores? Why should I go to UT (even if it has a better reputation) when I can go to UH and I won't need to spend as much? Isn't it the end result that matters for medical schools? Can you please help me? Thank you so much!
Honest, respectful opinions: What do you think? My husband and I have been married for 2 and a half years. We got married pretty young, we were both 19, but we'd known each other for 7 years and dated all through high school and our first year of college. We currently rent a cute three bedroom house with a nice porch and a little yard, and we are both juniors at a university in Texas majoring in education. My husband is a head-wait server at a popular, expensive steak house, and I wait tables at a local restaurant near our school. I also just interviewed for a job working for the city newspaper, as I’ve worked in a restaurant for too many years. We don't have money problems, and are very well-off for college students. We also receive scholarships and grants that pay for our education. Six months ago we began talking about wanting a child. We'd always said before that we wanted to wait until after we bought our own house and started our "real" jobs as teachers, and we wanted to make sure that we did everything "right." Now, though, we would really like to have a baby. We are both 21, and by society’s standards, “too young to have children.” It’s been really hard recently when two of our close friends found out that they were going to be parents because we feel that we’re ready for a child and would love to have one now, while they are unmarried and pregnant by “mistake.” Several people we have classes with at school have children, and they say it wasn’t that hard for them. We can afford for me to stay home after I have the baby and take care of it while my husband works in the evenings. We can also both still finish school, as we could take classes only Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and have my best friend watch our baby for a few hours. I also have a grandmother that lives close by that would love to help if we ever needed her to. We aren’t in any real hurry to finish school either. Life is good right now. My husband’s parents would be THRILLED if we made them grandparents. My husband’s brother just got married a few months ago, and it would kill us to see them get pregnant before we did (as horrible as that sounds). My parents were very FOR us waiting to have children when we first got married, but in the last year every time we have dinner all my mom talks about is when we are planning to make her a grandmother and how she wants to be there every step of the way. My grandfather might be a little disappointed, however; but I’m unsure. I would just really like to hear someone else’s not-so-brutally honest opinion about our situation. No, we don’t own our own home, but we do have a spacious place with bedrooms to spare. No we don’t have our “real” jobs yet, but we have money for everything we both need and want. This may not have been part of our original plan, and even though I am a very big planner, we really want to be parents now. As silly as this sounds, my husband is sooo helpful and good with helping me take care our 5 month old German shepherd (who used to be quite a handful) and our cat, and I know he would be a great father. So should we or shouldn’t we? Any opinions/thoughts you have would be appreciated. Actually, I'm from Houston, a very BIG town. I have been outside of the community, and outside of the country. Wanting to get pregnant and not being pregnant is a very hard thing for women to experience, and you should talk to someone who's wanted to have a child so bad and had to watch everyone around them get pregnant while they didn't. People 35 years old experience that, and I don't think me admitting that it would hurt me to have to watch them have what we want makes me a bad or immature person. It's a very hard thing, something you've apparently never experienced.
Are my SAT scores good enough? I have a slacker GPA of 3.35 and my toughest classes include, World Literature (Dual, College and HS credit), Calculus AP, Economics and Government (Dual), World History AP (scored a 3 on the test), US History (Dual), College Algebra and Trig (Dual), and Composition (Dual). My other qualifications are unmentioned. Critical Reading 560 Math 520 Writing 570 Total = 1650 My first choice, which I have applied to, is the University of Texas at Austin Second choice, which I have applied to, is Baylor University Third choice is either University of North Texas, Texas Tech or Texas A&M Choices really depend on money, scholarships and grants.
Anyone with experience? My husband and I may have gotten pregnant this month, but it's too soon to tell. I am taking prenatal vitamins just in case. We would both be very happy and excited if we were pregnant, and we currently have a three bedroom house, so we'll have plenty of room. Our families are also supportive, and only live about 40 minutes away. The only problem is that since we've gotten married, we haven't had any health insurance. We are 22, full time students in our fourth year of college, and we receive scholarships, grants, and financial aid to pay for our education. We live in Texas. If I am pregnant, what should we do now to prepare for the baby? Since we are full time students working as servers in restaurants, would we be able to qualify for Medicaid to get prenatal care and care for the baby? Any one know more about our options? We have plenty of money to take care of the baby otherwise, but just not enough to pay out-of-pocket for hospital, doctor, and prescription bills. I just wanted to add that we've been married for two years and were planning until we got our "real" jobs and our "real" home before having kids. We just happened to not be too careful this month and had unprotected sex on several "fertile" days. So if I take a pregnancy test at home when I can and am in fact pregnant, the first thing I should do is just walk into a medicaid office? I don't have to pay for a regular doctor visit first to confirm it or anything? And thank you all so much for your responses! I appreciate it so much! Good luck to all of you in you, especially those of you that are expecting!
Pregnancy options? My husband and I MAY be pregnant. We are both 22 and full-time college students in Texas. We currently do not have health insurance, and haven't since we got married 2 years ago. We will ofcourse finish school. We rent a nice house with a guest bedroom to spare for the baby. We receive scholarships, grants, and financial aid to pay for our tuition. We currently are both servers at restaurants, but I am thinking of getting a desk job at a political research company. Anyway, I'm guessing (can only find his check stub) that we make about $1000 a month (although servers aren't required to report ALL their tips, and we have no money problems at all so we must make more than this). We of course have bills to pay like $600 for rent, $100 for electricity, $40 for satellite, $50 for phone/DSL, $135 for car insurance, etc. We will be able to cover everything else, but medical expenses out of pocket are not an option. Are we eligible for Medicaid? I'm confused by the website. Other options? By the way, it's too soon to test yet to find out one way or another. I just want to be prepared. Yes, we did. I know it sounds bad, but I wouldn't change a thing about it. I'd dated him in high school and through our first year of college, and then we got married. It's not like we're from a small town or sheltered or anything like that either, we're both from Houston. But yeah, I know, it's different :D
FAFSA after 24? I'm a Texas resident attending in-state schools, and I have never been able to get anything but loans because of the amount of money my parents make, even though I'm on my own. I turn 24 in March 2008. What are my chances of getting some Grants or Scholarships in the Summer or fall? And if so, should I wait till after my Birthday to apply? How will all of this work?
Starting a family? My husband and I have been married for 2 and a half years. We also receive scholarships and grants that pay for our education. Six months ago we began talking about wanting a child. Right before that, we'd thought maybe we'd accidentally gotten pregnant, and the feelings of disappointment got us thinking. We'd always said before that we wanted to wait until after we bought our own house and started our "real" jobs as teachers, and we wanted to make sure that we did everything "right." Now, though, we would really like to have a baby. Returning to college after long hiatus...what do I do now? My question is a bit broad, but I'm not really sure exactly which questions to ask. That only makes it more complicated. I'm planning to go back to college after a long hiatus. I am a bit unsure of my eligibility. In fact, I am not sure if my SAT scores are even still valid. I live in Texas, and plan to attend a Texas school. I have no idea even where to start. If I plan to attend a program at the Art Institutes, are the requirements different than a university? Also, how likely would my chances be of qualifying for grants? Or scholarships for that matter? I am fully aware that these could be answered by an adviser. I just don't even know what questions I am supposed to be asking.
Is it necessary to be a US Citizen or permanent legal resident to apply for FAFSA? Hello, I am an international undergraduate student majoring in Music Performance, at the University of North Texas (under an F-1 Visa). I am trying to apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid to apply for grants or scholarships, but by the time I'm asked if I am a US Citizen and I say no (when filling my profile)... well, it doesn't let me to go on, I suppose. I tried many ways possible but still didn't work. So, do I require to be a US Citizen or permanent resident to apply for this or not? Any suggestions? Thank you very much...

What's the name of this scholarship? I forgot the name of it, it's the one for texas students who are in the top ten % of their class - they're guaranteed 2,000. Is it the texas grant? I already tried googling it by the way. (i want to be sure of the name).
Out of State Tuition Fees? Hi I visited collegeboard.com bc I am interested in transferring schools. I am currently a student at NSU in La and am interested in transferring to Texas State University in San Marcos. It says that the Out of State fees would be 14,786. So I am curious to know if that is for each semester.Maybe I am misreading. Also is it possible to get loans to help cover some of those fees? At the college that I already attend, I recieve pell grants, scholarship, and loans. So will that increase since the other school is more expensive. http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/compare_schools.jsp?
