If I get a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship, which would cover a lot or possibly all of my tuition, can I still get the Pell Grant and use it on living expenses, books, food, etc.? I'm pretty sure that my parent's income makes me fully eligible for a full Pell Grant, but will they give me less if I have the scholarship? By the way, I'm planning on going to a community college, if that matters.

Need help with finding scholarships/grants for special ed child in San Diego....? I'm living in Florida and we currently receive the Mckay scholarship. Basically it's a state scholarship that will give any/all special needs children, even with slight learning disabilities, money to attend private schools. This helps us BIG time! Private schools that offer occupationa/speech therapy are $$$$! So we may be on our way out to San Diego soon and need to find out if there are ANY things like this out there. I got expelled from school, can i still join the military? Ok here is my story, im 19 years old and i have just finished my first year in college, i was granted bright futures scholarship (Florida scholarship for gettin 3.5 g.p.a). well back when i was in 11th grade, i ended up getting expelled for paraphernalia (not have drugs on campus). all i had was A rolling paper and a new pipe that hadnt been smoked out of. well i got lucky and only got 30 hours of community service, no court, no misdemeanor, no probation, nothing that had to do with the law, just expulsion and community service. Well I figured that when i go to join the navy they will ask me questions like have i done drugs before. should i say "yes i have but ive changed since then" or deny it. ive been told to deny it. but i believe they can go back and see that ive been expelled for paraphernalia. what should i say? will me being expelled hinder my chances of getting in? or will they see that ive honestly changed my lifestyle and i am not into marijuana anymore. thank you!
Is there grant money or scholarships for children with disabled parent? My mom has been on disability for about 9 years. Yesterday I was accepted to my dream school for film. In total school will cost 77,500 dollars plus living expences since I'd have to move to Florida. I can only go if I find away to pay for it without parent co signed loans because my parents won't co sign. Please this is my dream and any help is appreciated!

Taxes and Scholarships..Bright Futures? I'm completely confused on how to report this on my taxes. Last year it worked out and I just barely got by without having to owe taxes. I made under I think $9,000 from working two jobs. I got back about the same amount in scholarships total. I know that at least $3500 went toward school fees, books, and tuition. I also have a pell grant and a Bright Futures scholarship. So I'm wondering which parts are taxable. Is it just what I got back which is probably $3-4000. I know the pell grant is not taxable and what I received back I put into a savings account. So do I need to count that as taxable income or do I use it for the part about interest. Bright Futures is a state scholarship in Florida as far as I know. So I don't know if that's taxable. I just want to make sure that I don't have to put all $8-9000 I got in scholarships on there because I know some of it went towards books, etc and some of it isn't taxable. I haven't gotten the paper from my school yet but I wanted to get ahead.
i will be a sophomore in college in August and the school i attend is somewhat expensive.? what are the BEST sites to search for scholarships & grants but i would not like any loans. im not sure if florida has its own website for scholarships but i would really love for someone's help. *if you dont have anything positive to say, PLEASE dont answer.* Thank You.
What should I do about school? I got accepted to UF for fall and UW for summer. Scholarships in Florida but still have a pell grant. i think wyoming will be a cool experience to get away and experience something new while still getting ahead in school but tuition is higher for non residences and UF will be paid for in the fall. I can go to either. Im torn between bein safe and bein bold. What do you think?
Residency classification at a Florida university.? I just graduated from my undergraduate university that is in the state of Florida. I have lived in Florida all my life. I am about to start graduate school at a different Florida university. As part of that, I have to file for Florida residency for tuition purposes. Last year, I essentially supported myself through school, however I took in no income. I basically lived off of scholarships, grants and loans. Because of that, I do not have to file a tax report. My father was planning on claiming me as a dependent, but he is being slow, and has to wait for his bussinesses tax return to comeback before he can file. He has an extension till September (or so he says). I was pushed into a wall, because, if my father claims me as a dependent on his tax return, to file for residency, i have to get a copy of his tax return. Problem is, I have to have that by August, which, unless something changes in the next 2-3 weeks, doesn't look like it is going to happen. I brought up the fact that I supported myself on grants and stuff, because, I talked to the residency staff at my new school, and they said, if I am not claimed as a dependent, they would not require a tax return from me. Because I supported myself with grants and stuff, I think my father does not need to claim me as a dependent. Now this leads me to a concern. If I go ahead and demand my father not claim me as a dependent, and I just file for residency as a independent. What problems might I run into when filing for residency. I think i may run into a slight issue with the demand that I have "established and maintained legal residency in Florida for at least the last twelve months". I have clearly done that, but i can't think of any proof of that. I don't pay rent at my fathers house, and my rent at my apartment won't work. I am not registered to vote, and my car is in my fathers name. That only leaves me with my drivers license as proof of Florida residency. Any ideas? It seems like I have no paper trail for having "established and maintained legal residency in Florida for at least the last twelve months" at the house that I have has a permanent residence for the last 7 years but there is also no contradictory information. I am a little worried because my graduate program accepted me with full tuition coverage (so long as I am a Florida resident......).

Is it possible to transfer a scholarship? A girl I know lives in Georgia and has a full-ride scholarship granted to her by the state for her medical degree but wants to move down to Florida... is it possible to transfer the scholarship to another school in Florida or is it only a state thing?
I'm a 2011 graduate who's missed college and scholarship deadlines. Am I still eligible? I'm trying to see if I can still get a Florida Bright Future's Scholarship or a Pell Grant, but I can't make heads or tails of what the websites are saying. If I'm not eligible, what sort of scholarships should I aim for? Or what sort of financial aid, besides fafsa, can I get?
Is a masters degree in counseling (psychology) worth the risk of being stuck with student loan debt? I am half finished earning an AA degree. I am a straight A student with a good deal of self discipline and self-determination. I want to earn an BA in psychology from USF and then a Masters in counseling at a California university to become either a Mental health counselor or a Marriage and Family counselor. I am a first generation student so the deadlines and processes can be daunting at times. I filled out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and have received a full Pell Grant ($5,300) plus a Florida Medallion scholarship for my progress in high school (100% tuition at community college, 75% state university until I earn a BA). So, I am pretty sure that I will be able to afford a BA, but I am not so sure about being able to afford a MA. Just the cost of attendance for graduate school is much more than I could make in a year even if I could find a job. Is it possible to get enough scholarships to fund an MA without any student loans? I hear of a lot of people who have earned masters who cannot pay off their student loans because they can not get the job they trained for. All of their hard work in college has lead to low paying jobs and a huge debt. I am afraid of being one of them. I really want to pursue this field. Psychology is basically "my thing". I'm not pursuing this degree for money, but I do want to have a family and be comfortable and be able to support my future childrens' college education. Pursing this field will make me happy but not if I can't support myself let alone a family. I wonder if I should just earn a bachelors in a field with better job security and a better salary. I also wonder if this uncertainty is temporary - if the economy will get better and allow for me to get a job in the field of psychology. I have seen my parents struggle with debt and I know that doing something that interests me isin't worth debt that I won't be able to pay off. So do I sacrifice years of studying and financial stability to become a counselor so I can be satisfied with my work life? or do I sacrifice my interest in psychology for financial stability so that I may be satisfied with my love/family life? Thank you for reading my long, anxiety-attack of a question. I would really appreciate an answer from someone who has been through something similar recently. Because I am a first-gen student I don't know anyone who can help me with this question. Money will not automatically bring satisfaction to my life, but what i've learned through family experience is that satisfaction is not possible if you are constantly struggling to earn a living.

Is there any way I can claim independent and move away from my parents if I am not getting enouph support? Me and my sister are 19 and 20 and we do not get financial support from our parents. We are filed as dependents on their taxes since we still live in the same house. I have taken my maximum college loan to pay my bills such as credit card bills and college tuition. I know that FAFSA looks at our family income to determine the grant I receive. I didn't qualify for scholarships except for Federal Pell Grant and Florida Student Asst. Grant. With my loan it all adds up to $3,200 for semester. Tuition with books cost me $1,500. I make enough to pay for school transportation. I did purchase a cheap motorcycle with the rest of the money so I could stay in school since my college is 50 miles away and there is no reliable public transportation. I want to know if I can claim independent so the government does not think my parents are helping me pay for the cost of attending school. They wanted me to cancel our Internet but instead I forwarded the bill to my credit card so I could do my homework with requires Internet access. Any suggestions? I have to work for my parents because I can't afford to pay them rent, and I buy my own meals.

Were can I find a Grant or scholaship? I am 22 Years old and I dont have a GED or Highschool Diploma, I found a university called Florida Metropolitan University which offers a test called CPAT in which you need to score between 70 and 180 and I scored 153, which allows you to go to university without the GED for a time period of 2 years in which you need to have your GED by then, I qualified for $1,967 with the Pell Grant but that leave me with a balance of over $8,000 and being the posibility that i dont qualify for a student loan what can I do since I dont have parents niether do I have the money, I have search grants and scholarships online but they all require a highschool graduation date to fill online what can I do?
Grants and Loans for older college student? I'm 26 years old and I've finally decided to go back to college. I went right after high school but dropped out. I know it's a little far fetched but I was looking to go OUT OF STATE for my education. I've lived in Tampa, Florida for 26 years and the beachy, tropical, and over crowded lifestyle is all I've ever known. I like it here but I figured I'm still young enough to venture out. Although I'll probably end up at a school here in Tampa. My question is do you guys know of any scholarships or grants that I might be qualified for? Do you know any web-sites with useful information? I'm 26, i have no college credits, no SAT scores, and no foreign language credits. Also I'm caucasian or whatever you want to say...I'm a white dude. No family in the military or anything either, no kids, no wife, no sick siblings or family members. Essentially it's just me broke and going no where. I'm planning on majoring in nursing or something else in the medical field. I know community college is probably where I will be starting off. I'm mostly looking to go to Maine. The University of Maine is the school I want to go to most. I've always wanted to live in Maine. Any information would be helpful. Thanks. Also, if I just pay the out of state fees for one year at Maine and I get my driver license transferred to Maine in that year would I be considered an INSTATE STUDENT. How does that work. The web-sites aren't exactly clear. Again thanks for the help and thank you for reading.
When should I start applying for scholship and grants and what are my chances of geting into UCF ? I live in Columbus, Ohio and I am on my way to my sophomore year of high school. My dream college is The University of Central Florida and I want to be pre-medicle but I did rediculously horrible my freshman year but, I have a lot of extra curricular activities like sports and things doing with theater and choir, I am in a big biomedical program at school, also I volunteer at a local retirement home. I've been saving up money since I was a little kid for college but I think that will not be enough for a out of state student, so when will the appropriate time be for me to start applying for scholarships and grants for college? Also do you think if I do great for my remainding years in high school that I will be able to get into UCF? = )
Do I get the money from my pell grant even if my tuition and fees were covered by other scholarships? I live in Florida and I got Bright Futures Scholarships plus a Bob Elmore Scholarship and the pell grant. In all, it came out to be 4464 dollars. However, considering the order in which I received the awards, everything ended up being paid for before I got my pell grant. I got 2, 725 dollars from the Pell grant but my books and tuition were covered by the two other awards. My question is: do i get the 2,725 from the pell grant back to me or do they take it away because I already paid for everything?
I live in Florida and want to go to college in Minnesota, how can I do this with the costs? I have a 3.7 GPA 1670 SAT (about to take ACT) and my ranking is 36 out of 560ish. I really want to go to Minnesota for college, pref U of Minn Twin cities or Mankato then switch to the U of Minn, but I'm afraid of the out-of-state tuition costs. Will I get scholarships and grants? I don't believe I can use the bright futures scholarship from FL in MN, and I'm already a senior so I can't move there and claim residency. I'm just worried if I can even go there.
Is University of Tampa a good school? I got accepted into the University of Tampa with a presidential scholarship and into the honors program. When I add bright futures, financial aid, and florida resident grant I have this school for free and in addition, its only an hour away from my parents and home. I'm really focused in my education and I want to be a physician, hence I will work really hard to get into medical school. I also applied to the other florida schools, UF, UM, and FSU and I wont find out if I have gotten accepted until few more months. Should UT be of any consideration? I visited the campus, it is pretty, but I need more academic information since that is very important to me.
Why is my financial aid doing this? Okay, so I'm a freshman at Florida International University. I got a grant a scholarship. The full tuition and fees total for Fall term was $2308.89 and the money was due by the 30th of August, and all grants and scholarships are processed by September first. I got a $750.00 grant and $1,400.00 scholarship, causing me to owe the school $148.89. I made the payment online yesterday. Now, when I double checked, they're telling me that my scholarship is only $988.00... How is this possible? Yes, I am enrolled full time
Florida A&M University Scholarship Concern, Double Occupancy and National Achievement? A few months ago, I was introduced to one of the members of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University's staff, and was offered a "full-ride" scholarship, or $100,000. Bear in mind, I am INCREDIBLY grateful for this, but I have a few questions concerning it. According to the letter, this is the "Distinguished Scholar's Award" from the Presidential Program, and is "a four-year scholarship that pays tuition and fees. A National Achievement Semifinalist will receive double-room occupancy rate and board. Students who are Pell Grant eligible will receive a stipend not to exceed $500 per semester. A National Achievement Finalist will receive a laptop, as well. A National Achievement Scholar will receive a laptop, a $500 semester for books and a $500 per semester stipend." I am a National Achievement Semifinalists, still in the competition. When it says "Double Occupancy room rate, and board", exactly what does that mean? Is room and board covered? What is double occupancy? Do the "fees" only include the fees for applications? I mean not to be rude, but the staff member said that this scholarship would cover everything, including books and room. Is that correct, of does it cover just tuition and fees? And exactly what IS a National Achievement Scholar? I realize how many questions I have asked, and I apologize. I tried researching the answer, but has come to no definite answer. Thank you so much, Ricco
How can I afford Out of State Tuition in Florida? I live in Tennessee. I have always wanted to go to Uf, but it is not financially possible for my family at this time. It costs close to 35,000 a year weighing in everything. I have a 3.9 GPA. I am in Beta Club, Key Club International, National Honors Society, World Cause (local club to promote world awareness), I have a job at Pac Sun, and I also volunteer at the Alzheimer's Assisted Living Center. I have taken AP and Honors courses for at least half of my classes... I was wondering how I could possibly afford it without moving in state for a year. Any specific grant or scholarships?? Does the school have a program where if I score high enough on ACT/SAT I can qualify for in state? Anything to help me out. Thanks
I have a few questions regarding college financial aid...? Like the question says I just have a few questions that should be easy for anyone in college to answer. 1. If I have a scholarship that pays for 100% of my tuition and fees and a few grants on top of that do I get all of the money from the grants? They are a Pell Grant and Florida Student Assistance Grant and I live at home with my parents, in case you need to know. 2. Regarding the advance in Financial receiving to pay for books, bookstore authorizations I think they're called, can that be used to buy anything in the school's bookstore like pens, pencils, needed computer software, and what not? Thanks in advance.
Does it matter on what undergraduate college i go to? I wanted to go to University of Miami but I decided to go to Florida International university because their tuition is way much more cheaper than UM and plus I am very poor yeah i know there's loans grants and scholarship but hey do you think they'll pay that much money for me i dont think so and plus i dont feel like going into debt too I wanted to add that I want to be a cosmetic dermatologis when i grow up too currently im 16 years old
What are the cheapest computer colleges that are like Christian but like very good? I know Pensacola Christian College is a cheap college in Florida, and they offer a Web Designing degree but are there other really cheap colleges with computer degrees? Like a school that is under $10,000 but one that would still offer the pell grant and other scholarship or such?
Need Help Finding Scholarships :( LGBT Sophomore Unsure of Major With Many Interests, Cool With Writing? I LOVE writing, so I don't mind scholarships that require an essay, the problem is finding one that actually covers people like me that I can actually get access to. :( Yet I really need the money; my parents have had to borrow money from my gramma just to keep their own business afloat! I don't need much; I'm only taking one course (Algebra) in a community college in Florida this semester. But about $300 is an awful lot when you don't have it. The details: *I'm 23-yo LGBT female *I make less than $2000 a year but am a dependent of my parents *interested in mythology, folklore, fairy tales, biology, history, feminism, literature, words, animation, comics, Japanese language/culture, film, science fiction, fantasy fiction, and psychology. Also interested in music but not talented at it sadly. *Considering majoring in Psychology or Law, possible minor in Biology or English or Folklore or... I have no idea (yeah, I'm indecisive). I'm leaning towards Constitutional Law and Psych though. *Considering becoming a counselor, K-12 teacher, research psychologist, and/or lawyer (with specialty in Constitutional law issues) *Planning to write fiction and nonfiction regardless of my day job *Oh, and I'm a Sophomore at community college in Brevard County. I am working on the final credits to my AA degree that I hope to transfer over to a four-year university sometime in 2011 (after I pick up some prereqs, I think. Currently thinking Psychology, maybe try out a Paralegal terminology course or something to see if I've the appetite for studying law). *Oh, and my parents are art restorers if that helps? And yes, I have tried FastWeb - it doesn't ever seem to help, the scholarships and grants always seem to be either something I'm not actually eligible for (it's only for freshmen, or only for those working on their Master's, or you have to be bilingual or something, etc.), or the deadline has passed - and I also believe that the deadline for this year's FAFSA in my state has passed. Again: I don't mind writing something (story, essay, etc.), I would love to in fact... I just need something that is still available that I'm actually eligible for. :( BTW to the person who's entire answer consisted of "get a job": I HAVE a job. It's part time, and only pays me $50/week, ALL of which goes to gas for the car, food, "feminine products", an expensive medication I'm on, etc. And frankly, I'm lucky to even have that much! I have TRIED getting another job, even just a part time job; my area is NOT a major metro area or trade center; everybody that I'm qualified to have a job with is either NOT hiring until seasonal for Christmas i.e. October or November (when I start class in AUGUST), is going out of business, or has had a full-on hiring freeze since before last Christmas (yes, I tried the mall, and all the major chain stores there told me exactly that). I HAVE a job and have TRIED to get a second job; I cannot get one in my area! Not all of us can find work easily in a RECESSION, especially when we're still working on our degree and only speak 1 language. :\ I've also tried selling stuff on eBay; that hasn't worked either.
I'm 40+ and going back to college. Is there grant/scholarship money available for me? Returning to college in Hernando county, Florida, finishing my AA first, 12 hours left to complete. Am pursuing elementary education degree. I would appreciate any advice.
I live in Florida. I need college money. Any ideas for scholarships or grants? I live in Highlands County Florida. FASFA threw me out in the rain, and our guidance office isn't really supplying too many options. I can't apply for the Florida Resident Aid Grant, because University of Florida isn't on their list of accepted schools. I don't have any disabilities. I'm male, white. Not of any kind of descent. No veterans in the family. No one's on disability. My parents are married. And my sister is attending University of Florida as well. I'm starting this Summer/Fall. So with two of us in college, it's gonna be really tight. And my little sister is just 2 years behind me. I'm going to be a Biology Major, and hopefully be a doctor. I have a 4.7 GPA, a 1280 SAT. I have 69 of the 75 community service hours for Bright Futures. I'm going for 100% one.
What would be recommended Scholarship and Grant sites to apply for? I recently graduated from high school, and am about to be in St. Petersburg College in Florida.
Question about college and scholarships??? I am a US citizen and i live in Florida currently. I am hoping to attend UCC (University College Cork) and it's in Ireland. I will need scholarships and grants but do i get them here in Florida? Or do i find them in Ireland? Please help, Thanks.
what are my options when it comes to scholarships? I am a student at college of central florida, and I am taking classes towards my aa degree for political science and i have florida prepaid college. I was wondering what options I have when it comes to scholarships, financial aid, grant, etc. I would love to be able to attend USF, FSU, UM, or UF can somebody please help. thanks
Marine Science Scholarships? I am applying as a Transfer student to Eckerd college in Florida and will be paying for college on my own. Only problem is the Pell grant hardly covers my tuition. I have been trying to find scholarships and other grants online as advised by my admissions counsler but I just keep finding scams. Help? Anyone? I did qualify for the full FASFA but it is only a small portion of what I do actually need, & the college is perfect to fulfill my dream of becoming a great Marine Biologist.
I need help with college? please help? Im filling out my FAFSA right now and when I read that if you dont have your parents info then you can go on to the next section by clicking unable to give information. My parents went to Florida for a week and while they were gone since i was at work I looked everywhere for their information their social security tax return, all I found was my dads OLD tax return from 2001 and I have his social security! : ) but I cant find my moms ss# and I dont have both of there current tax return. So should I just click unable to give information, which is quite true, plus I have a good reason too in which they dont want me to go to college pretty much. I do however have my W-2 from the 2 jobs that Ive worked at last year. When it comes till January 2012 Im going to send them to my grandmother sense she does taxes and I can file them and can say that I filed my taxes on FAFSA for next year! : ) So it will sort of look like im independent I guess But should I just might as well say that my parents wont give me information which they really wont, or should I just try to fill out how much I can in the parent section and then try to get the whole package like the loans grants scholarships and money for housing? Its just im afraid to say "unable" because they might not give me alot of money and I wont able to afford housing! : ( I dont know what to do! : ( Should I just reply to the women that sent me the message from the college first and tell her what happen and ask her what I should do? or should I just answer the question for the FAFSA myself? Im sorry if im asking much but i really dont know what to do! : ( However for my school gives out grants for people who have learning disabilities and legitimately I do have a learning disability and I have documentation to prove it

Another question is if i should just go to miami dade which many of my friends say is the same for less money and transfer after 2 years. also i can get the first 2 years free because of the american dream scholarship. Also if i do go to miami dade will i be able to get financial and bright future even though im going there for free and will i be able to keep that money?

My brother needs a significantly large scholarship, Central Florida Area? My brother is going to go to college soon and he needs money for the college he wants to go to. He plans to go to FullSail and get a degree in art. I'm not entirely sure of his degree field, but i know it will be around 75000 for the tuition and he needs to get housing and food also. Right now he is qualifying for a Bright Futures Scholarship that might be able to pay for around 20,000. My Father works at Walmart and my Mom is unemployed so they don't qualify for a loan of any large size, so i would appreciate any information on Grants and Scholarships that my brother could use.
Are there any grants or scholarships for nursing degrees in florida for low income families? I am trying to get either an AS or BS in nursing depending on which would give me the most for school. I make 16000 a year w/ my wife who is not working right now because she is taking care of our child who is under a year old. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I am also going to Daytona State College if that helps any.
Looking for nursing school grants or scholarships in FL? Does anyone know of scholarships or grants, state or government, that a male nursing student could apply for in Florida ?
Is it possible to get a loan, grant,or scholarship for a Fire Academy in Florida? I have been trying for over a year to find one with absolutely no luck. Please Help!
where's a good place for College Scholarships? Right now my First Choice is Florida State University (FSU) if there are any scholarships or grants that you know of anything would be helpful (or if you're willing to make a donation =P)
Scholarships for "White" engineering students? Does anyone know a GOOD site for engineering scholarships. I was told by an instructor (practically in private) that some schools are offering scholarships for non-Asian engineering students. Many google searches for this topic come up with only Asian scholarships. Besides the common general scholarship grants for all students that offer very little, I cant find anything unless I was a race or sex that I am not. I am not looking for a discussion or comments about (reverse)discrimination because it is discrimination and I DO know that it is and that it IS very unfair.... period. Race/sex/age(if over 18) should be illegal on all forms.... Now with that already commented on and out of the way for future posters, I just need some suggestions for names or sites of some scholarships. Thanks in advance. Florida, White, Male... AA Pre-engineering 3.4gpa 2007-2010 Aerospace engineering 2010-2013 "Quaker O"-- Been there, done that, and have been to hundreds of other places/sites. I AM looking hard enough... As I said, the common scholarships provide very little funding. I have been to fafsa many times on the web and have visited the financial aid office for assistance. Both suggest loans in addition to minute grants that are generally given to everyone. Their attitude is that "I don't need the money based off of need" because my parents didn't make wrong choice in their life (at-least financially). Ok, so I should accumulate up to $100,000.00 in student debt while someone who choose the same or an easier major (that costs the same) gets to go for nearly nothing because they are less fortunate and have parents who decided to make the wrong choices in life financially? When two students graduate with the same major/degree/grades how is it fare that they are not indebted to the banks/gvmt for the same amount? It's just sad. Anyone else have some scholarship ideas? Thanks...
If I was born on Alaskan soil? If I was born on Alaskan soil, does this make me a Native Alaskan? Can I register as a voter under ethinicity as a Native Alaskan/American Indian as these are combined on voters registration forms in Florida? If so, are there special grants or scholarships available?
Military Veteran- Need more aid besides GI BILL for college? I have been going to college for about two years now. I have been using my GI BILL which will run out eventually and I already know about the Post 9-11 GI Bill. I have been searching for grants/scholarships for OIF OEF veterans in Florida for a long time now and come up with nothing. My father, whom I do not live with, makes too much money for me to qualify for federal aid of any kind. Does anybody out there know of any good scholarships for veterans besides the GI BILL?? I have been struggling to support myself on that and I usually attend 15+ credit hours a semester...PLEASE HELP.
Can I get a Grant/Scholarship? Something? I took & Completed, Online courses with an Accredited school, Ashworth University formally known as James Madison High School. This school is located in Norcross, GA. But I am a Florida resident. I want to attend a college but can't, because they won't send me my diploma or even a transcript to the schools, until I pay at least $500. Is there any finical aid for people in my category? Can I get a Grant/Scholarship? Something? What do you think I should do?
How exactly does a Pell Grant Work? I have applied for and been approved for a Pell Grant ($2100 a semester) and a 100% Bright Futures scholarship, which pays for all of my tuition in a Florida public college. My question is do they physically give me the money as long as I am enrolled in college or do they send it to me school and then my school pays by bills and gives me the rest?
Mother refuses to sign papers for her daughter to attend college at 18? I am a college student in Florida, I am a great student and have over a 3.3 GPA. I pay for school all by myself due to grants, scholarships, and financial aid. I have been completely on my own for the past year, paying all my own bills without her assistance. When I decided I wanted to transfer schools, she refused to sign the residency form so I can attend college since she "claims" me and will until I am 24. I am not sure how to go about this situation. I have called the school and explained my situation and they said that paper needs to be signed. What do I do? She claims me on her taxes for a tax break. I need to get her signature and copy of her ID for school and she will not do it. Is it even possible for a 19 year old to get emancipated?
Help with Pell Grant information!!? Ok...so i was awarded 3000.00 in scholarships for next semester through a florida pell grant. I will only be taking two classes next semester however, so what happens to the remainder of the money? Does anyone know, if it comes to me or it just goes away or what?? Thanks any help is appreciated!!

Financial Aid? Sholarships? Grants? Loans? WHATEVER!? My dream college is in Florida. It's called Johnson & Wales. I live in Michigan. My parents are worried about the finances. I have some scholarships, but they won't cover the whole cost. My family is middle class, both parents in the home with pretty decent jobs so you can imagine that my federal money isn't that large. I need help! I've applied for scholarships, but my grades are just okay so that doesn't really help. I have a 3.3 GPA and I got a 20 on the ACT. I am very active at my school and in my community. My passion is Culinary Arts/business. I really want to go away to college, but I just don't have the means to pay for it. What do you suggest?
What is needed to apply at the University of South Florida for those with a GED and will I have enough time? If all goes well I hope to start taking classes at USF in the fall. I just need to know if I'll be able to meet the deadline which is March 1st. First I have to take and pass the GED on the 21st of January, then I have to take the ACT on the 7th of February while applying for grants and loans. I also have a disability(missing left hand) and my Mom's a retired veteran of the Air Force and she was telling me about some income I'll be getting if I'm in School. I really just need to know what scholarships and loans I'm eligible for and if I'll be able to get my Test(s) results and other stuff done in time to apply for school at USF. If I'm not able to then I'll do a semester at my community college and transfer. Thanks for any help. Financial Aid Help plz!!!? I am a graduating senior this year, class of 2009. I will be going to a private institution within my home state of Florida, St Leo. I have Full-Aid to go there i.e. scholarships/grants/loans that cover the entire cost! Unfortunately, my funds will not be coming to me until the school year has started. There is an option for incoming Freshmen, limited to only 16 freshmen on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is for a trip to Ecuador for 12 days and counts for a three credit score and would start and end all right before we actually move in. The trip cost is 1695USD and the deposit is 500.00 non-refundable by June 1. The rest, if accepted, is due by July 10th. I am 17; my birthday is in August, the 15th. I want to take out a student loan that I could repay back completely within 3 months, after I receive my funds, which include Stafford loans. Is there any sites that I could do it with that would not need a cosigner, since my Mom has no credit, my dad is gone, and all other family is dealing with suffering credit right now, so I'm trying to find without cosinger, if possible? PLz and thank you!!! 3 Credit COURSE** And emphasis on **17** This is College, not High School! And I already have scholarships, many!!! I just don't get the funds until after the school year starts!! I need an advance, and I WILL be able to repay within three months because I have soo much leftover of my funds, that it can finace this trip!!!!
Bad credit, about to enroll in graduate school. Need advice? Hey, I am a 5th year senior at a florida university. I am not slow, I am 5th year because I am doing dual degrees. I was not delayed. I will graduate with 180 hours in the spring of my 5th year, and I had 133 hours (13+) in the spring of my 4th year. So I was 13 hours over where I was supposed to be. My first two years, most of my tuition was covered by Florida Prepaid. (This will become a common theme in my situation, but my mother didn't think I would be able to go to a university (so she went 2 year community college plan)). So my first two years, tuition was mostly covered. My father then had me take out loans, then forged my name and deposited all my loans in his account. Gave me very little of it (he covered my rent, usually after I wrote bounced checks after he said he put it in). Pretty much, he took my loans (and grant/scholarship money), banked it all in his business and I saw very little of it. All I could pay for (without getting bitched at and threatened with "I canceled your credit card, and am taking my car back, so drop out and go get a job because I am not supporting you anymore") was rent (with a lot of problems, utilities, tuition and food). I have gotten around 30 grand (over the last 2 years in college (4th and 5th year)). My father took it all, and deposited it all in his accounts (BTW it was all gone like a week after he got the checks, because i got a call saying "don't spend any money, I cant cover it".) He also had me apply for loans over my last 3 years, claiming the above quote "I canceled your credit card, and am taking my car back, so drop out and go get a job because I am not supporting you anymore" type thing if i didn't do it.) So i have like 60 grand I owe the loan places (he took that too). My last semester, I couldn't get a loan because i have horrible credit now. Some how, I also have like 30k of his debt from one of his credit cards on my account too. I was going to go to medical school, but advisers seriously advised me to not apply, for two reasons, one being I couldn't pay for applications and travels (although I most likely could get in). And more importantly, because of my credit, I would either be declined for admission, or after admission i wouldn't be able to pay for medical school without joining the military in the HPSP program. I have scrounged up enough money to apply, and I have applied to graduate school (mostly PHD programs and one MPH program), but I am worried about how I will pay for it. I am going to try and stay in Florida, and all programs offer a stipend. My father is threatening me with the ""I canceled your credit card, and am taking my car back, so drop out and go get a job because I am not supporting you anymore" thing if i continue to try and apply. He is trying to force me to get a job to give him more money, I am at the point where I want to be done with him. Can I be considered a Florida resident if I have been a "dependent" this entire time. I have lived here all my life. I have also lived in my apartment for 3 years alone. Will I be required to get a loan to get through graduate school, or will the stipends be sufficient? Any advice? As sad as it is, my father has basically got me with all this stuff claiming, "ill support you through college", and now uses the fact that everything is in his name, including any money the schools give me, or i get in loans, as a way of controlling me. "I want to go to new york for graduate school" "NO, I am taking your car, and not putting money in your account, DROP OUT" = "Fine i am not going to new york for graduate school" Will I be required to get a loan to get through graduate school, or will the stipends be sufficient? Any advice?
Out of state tuition or in-state tuition? I am moving to florida after I graduate, I want to go to school but I can't afford out-of-state tuition (i dont want to be 4x in the debt than necessary) Is it a good decision to wait a year? Saying that I don't recieve any scholarships or grants?
Need advice. My mom wants me to stay at home for college but i want to go out of state and go to college.? I live with my mom and grandmother right now. I graduate high school in 2010 :) They are kind of struggling with money and everyone knows how our country's economy is at the moment, but they think it will be crazy expensive if i go to another state to go to college (public). I figure i can apply for grants/loans/ scholarships and make it happen. My dream /goal is to move to Florida and go to college and start off my new life their and make my dreams a reality. I just dont like the city i am in and the colleges here dont have what I want to major in. I have a sister and aunt that live in Florida already and I really like it better in Florida. What advice can someone give me on what I should or could do, but so far I just wanna follow my heart. P.S i want to be a airline pilot as well but Im thinking of majoring in Aerospace engineering so i can have other options if not a pilot. Any advice? I live in Houston
Car repossession question? I'm 23. I co-signed for a friend of mine (Big mistake). I did it bc he cosigned for my car when I was 20 and my credit wasn't good enough. I pay every month on time. He didn't pay and they were tracking him down. He disappeared from me as well until I found him and convinced him to voluntarily return the car. We returned it so the debt went from $20,000 to $5,000. This guy moved to another state and I'm pretty sure he is not paying up those 5 grand. I moved out from home to finish up engineering and I'm living out of scholarship, grants and loans. I can't make payments for that car bc I have payments of my own. My credit is already big time screwed bc this whole deal and I read all over the internet that it takes 7 years to clear up. I live in Florida and all of this happen in Florida. My question is: After those 7 years and if he hasn't paid the debt, is the money still owed or does it clear up? Thanks for your time.
Bright futures Scholarship and Marriage? If you earn a bright future scholarship in Florida.. But then you decide to get married. Do you loose the scholarship? I live with my mom who didn't qualify for FAFSA. But she is financially struggling. And I decided to get married. If you get married you qualify for other grants. Which I need, desperately. But do you loose bright futures? My boyfriend has 100% and I don't want to take that away from him. Answers would be extremely appreciated. (Just FYI I have been with this guy for years.) *And if you are going to respond with "Well you should have waited until college was done to get married.." OR "you shouldn't use marriage for help in college" then please just save yourself time and don't even post back on this question.

Do u think thats i good idea? 2.What should i write? this is wat i hav so far- Dear ____, My name is Savannah *****. I am 13 years old. I live in Florida; in the United States. A friend told me about the summer camp you have. I looked into the camp and would love to go, but I cannot afford it. I am home schooled and have been trying to learn French on my own. I love learning languages and have set a goal for myself, to learn how to speak French fluently. I would love the opportunity to go to your summer camp to further my knowledge of the language. This brings me back to why I am writing this letter; I would like to ask the __________ for a scholarship or grant. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. Sincerely, Savannah ***** What do u think?!? uhh yea my parents approve ? they r encouragin me!
What are my remaining options for Financial Aid? I am trying to attend an HBCU (Bethune-Cookman University) and it seems like they make it impossible for an out of state student to attend. They told me that I would owe about $12,500, not to mention that I begged them to tell me if I had a liabilty and if so, what it would be. They lost several of my documents and now they say that I can pay half and make payments throughout school (which im not able to do. No job security) but get this, I still haven't even recived my awards letter! All of this information is just estimates of around what it will be. Now, here is is practically July, starts in Aug and now Im screwed. Please help me on what I can do. I've applied for several scholarships (none)and the grants through the school are strictly for Florida Residents. + I dont have strong enough credit for a private loan and no cosigner. Thanks
Not receiving full pell grant? I am a full time college student in Florida, at a Community College. I have a Bright Futures scholarship which paid all tuition costs with the exception of books. My pell grant was for $2365. My books cost $200, which leaves $2165. When I got the payout of the check, It was for a little over $1574, which totals $1774. My question is why would the withhold the rest of the money? Do they only allow a certain amount to be paid out? Or are they just waiting to pay the rest. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I have "fl prepaid college" as a scholarship..? i received that scholarship, which is called Florida Prepaid College, in my sophomore year in college since i was a good student at a middle school in a bad area. Last semester they didnt grant me any money but since i went out of town, i didnt bother to see what was going on. I just got back and i need that fixed for this fall. Does anyone else have this scholarship? I went to their website but you cannot log in to see your account and i didnt see a number. They did give me a card for future reference but it doesnt have anything but a number and I dont know what to do with it..Help!
How do I go about financial aid for college? Last year I started a semester in the summer, didn't finish and now I know what i want to do so i want to go back. The problem is that this time I want to do the financial aid thing the right way. All I did was apply for fafsa and pay like $300 monthly and then i got a grant check. I want to know if there is a way, that doesn't require loans to lower my monthly payments. I know i would have to visit the financial aid office, but I want to know of questions I should ask or programs that may be available that i should also ask about. Fell free to make any suggestions and all answers are appreciated. Also if you can tell me of any scholarships for nursing in florida it would also help. thanks.

UF and Graduate School? with my academic record, i know i can get into an out of state private university (i have my eyes set on columbia). however, there is absolutely no way i can afford anything out of state, esp a private school, even with scholarships and grants. so i plan to attend an in-state university (University of Florida) simply because i know i have a free ride. im just worried.. is UF a good enough university to be able to get into a graduate program at a top college (like that of columbia or duke, etc)? does anyone know of any UF alumni who went to top schools after undergraduate studies? any insight would be really helpful : )
Miami Dade College students-your experiences with a retarded financial aid department? Help!??? Here's the situation: I have a previous bachelor's and am trying to change careers by going into vet tech at Miami Dade's Medical Center-they have the ONLY certified Vet Tech program in South Florida. I can't get the Pell Grant because of the previous bachelor's, the department demands that we work only part-time while in school as the curriculum is very tough, but the financial aid department is the most stubborn I have ever seen in my life: they only allow ONE federal loan per semester, and private student loans are only approved for physician's assistant students! This is absolutely insane: if you are not working full-time, you can't get a loan with a bank; most private student loans require the school's approval for disbursement; and parttime work does NOT cover living expenses in S. Florida! They tell you this only after you ask, so to boot I'm late for applying to most decent scholarships. Any suggestions? Could there be any chinks in the system that I am not aware of?
Undergraduate Studies - Loans? I am a college freshman entering in the Fall of 2008. The estimated cost of attendance for an undergraduate student at the University of Florida is $15812. I have been offered $15395 in awards. One of the options is a loan for $1583 and the rest of the money is made up of grants and a work-study program. If I don't take the loan, I'll have $13812. For those of you who are used to living away from home for college and know about your average needs, do you think that I would be fine without the loan? Would it be safe to take a loan so early in my studies? Right now I am a finalist for a $1000 scholarship and I am still applying for more. I have already won $500 for a scholarship so hopefully, I still qualify for more. My point is, if I don't take the loan, I'll continue to try to get the money through scholarships. If it looks like I'll need it I will take it, but if it's not all that important I won't take it so there's more money for someone else who needs it more than I do. Just to let you know - it's a subsidized stafford loan
how much would i have to pay for college? My expected family contribution is 0 so i have to pay for college all on my own. I know college can be cheaper if i go to community college for two years then transfer to a state university, so i plan on doing that. I don't think there are many scholarships i can get since i did not complete high school in the US (i have US citizenship i only completed high school abroad) How much grant money can i get? And how much can i expect to pay out of pocket or with loans? My home state is florida if that helps anything i cant get a bright futures scholarship because i did not complete high school in the US, i completed it abroad
my paper..just need to save it =)? Corinne Morgan Mrs. Porter English 3CP Period 1 10 March 2009 Jonah’s Gourd Vine: A Critical Analysis Zora Neale Hurston was born in Eatonville, Florida. When Hurston turned fourteen she left her hometown to work as a maid and traveled with Gilbert and Sullivan theatrical troupe. She entered Howard University in 1923, and shortly after she published her first short story in Stylus, which was the university literary magazine. After winning a scholarship to Barnard College in New York City in 1925, she studied anthropology under one of the most renowned anthropologists of the era Franz Boas. She continued her studies with Boas after graduating in 1928 at Columbia University. Being in New York and becoming involved in the Harlem Renaissance, she established friendships with other important black authors and published short stories. Hurston founded Fire!, with other black writers and Langston Hughes. She returned to her hometown for folklore, after having the assistance of fellowships and a private grant from a New York socialite interested in “primitive Negro art.” The result of the anthropologic field that Hurston has, she wrote Mules and Men. What the teller calls “lies“, is the folklore, which this story includes. Voodoo practices are mentioned and described in the story. The information on folklore practices were praised by critics of that time. Hurston’s first novel was Jonah’s Gourd Vine, which was published in 1934, combined her knowledge of folklore and biblical themes. John was an adopted son of a shift-less, scam-prone sharecropper that treated him very well. His biological father was a white plantation owner, where he worked and flourished. He was treated better with his adopted family than he was at his actual home. It was made sure that John had new clothes and an education. John became beyond his own control, and was compared to the gourd vine and eventually withers like it in the end. He was young man who loved too many women for his own good. Being a victim of this, he falls in love with a girl named Lucy and ends up being with her for as long as they live. She was loyal to John even when he was unfaithful to her. When he was being hot-headed, she was calm and patient with him and understanding. Eventually, John finds himself preaching at a Florida congregation, and despite his indiscretions, he was doing a lot better than he thought. Even after becoming the popular pastor of Zion Hope, his sermons and prayers for cleansing rouse the congregation's fervor where there, and then John has to confess that though he is a preacher on Sundays. He considers himself as a sympathetic portrait of a man and his community. In the future, John and Lucy have seven kids, and they live a happy life. Later in life, Lucy dies and John is just like Jonah and his “protection shield” is down that she had provided for him. John has realized that faith, tolerance, and good intentions cannot resolve the tension between the spiritual and the physical. What I should like to conclude wit is the hypothesis that one reason Zora Neale Hurston was attracted to the scientific conceptualization of her racial experience during the late twenties and early thirties was its prima facie offering of a structure for black Folklore (Hemenway 212). Unquestionably, Their Eyes Were Watching God is the prototypical Black novel of affirmation; it is the most successful, convincing, and exemplary novel of Blacklove that we have (Jordan 6-7). It might first seem natural for a preacher’s daughter to meet up with emotional difficulties when moving from Christianity to African derived Hoodoo (Southerland 25). Here in [“Jonah’s Gourd Vine”] there springs, with validity and vitality a fresh note which, to this commentator, is unique. As a matter of fact, not even excepting Langston Hughes, it is doubtful if there is any literary precedent for the particular type of accomplishment that characterizes “Jonah’s Gourd Vine.” (Hurst 7) The author’s treatment of whites is as natural and without change of key as it would need to be if she is to succeed in keeping universality the dominant note of her book (8). “Jonah’s Gourd Vine” can be called without fear of exaggeration the most vital and original novel about the American Negro that has yet been written by a member of the Negro race. No amount of special knowledge of her subject, however, could have made “Jonah’s Gourd Vine” other than a mediocre novel if it were not for Miss Hurston’s notable talents as a storyteller (Wallace 6-7). sorry. guess i didnt expect comments but uhm the paper isnt finished yett.duhh. thats whyy i saved it so i can print it off else where
