Bank account prevents financial aid/scholarships for college? I want to open a bank account so I can start saving up for college, and I think it would be smart considering many of my friends have their own accounts. However, my mom very stubbornly claims that if I open up a bank account, colleges will see that and for some reason deny me any form of financial aid or financial scholarships or anything like that. Is that true? I don't think it is but I don't want to risk it. Is there anything related to that in the financial aid process? Thanks again, please let me know whether colleges will deny me any of that if I open up a bank [checking or savings, not sure yet] account.

Thinking about going to college but have some questions on financial aid / scholarships etc? Okay, Im thinking about going to school for a Associates degree. Not sure what Im going in for yet though. Anyways I just moved from Ohio, to Miami. I been here since June, and I was wondering are their any possible ways to get any aid help? Like, are their special scholarships/opportunities for having red hair or so on. Or just basic help. Does anyone know any websites or anything that would give out that kind of information. Thanks
College financial aid! What scholarships can I get, where do I get them, etc.? I'm a senior this year. Graduating in June 2011. Question: What academic scholarships can I get? How do I get them? Where do I sign up? How soon do I need to get started with this? How much might they cover? Plus any additional information you can give me. Back story: My brother started college this year and got no grants from the government and not even a loan with deferred (I think that's the word) interest, because our parents make too much money. That would be well and good if they had any intention of helping us pay for school, but they don't. Which leaves me to come up with thousands of dollars on my own, or rack up exorbitant amounts of debt. I'm a very good student, I'm graduating a year early and I got a 29 on the ACT. I go to an alternative school, so I don't really have a GPA as of now. Our school doesn't have a guidance counselor or any one person around to help you with this, so please don't tell me to go talk to them. First off, no, my school DOES NOT have a guidance counselor. Have you gone there for four years? I'm not even sixteen yet, I can't GET a decent job, but I've still been looking for the past year. Don't assume things.

Do colleges give scholarships and financial aid separately? I just received my scholarship information that I will receive $1,000 dollars a year from the college. Will I receive a separate amount of money as financial aid from the FAFSA I completed or is that scholarship the only one I will receive from the college? So basically, are college scholarships separate from the FAFSA form?
How do I apply for college financial aid without a HS class rank? I graduated from a private high school, and I requested my transcript so I can apply for college financial aid (the FAFSA, scholarships, etc). And I just realized that the school doesn't provide my class rank. How do I complete financial aid applications without an official class rank, and will this lower my chances of getting financial aid? Thanks.
Columbia International College (CIC) Scholarships/Financial aid? Hello I really want to go to Columbia International college. It is located in Hamilton Ontario. I wanted to know if anyone who goes or knows anything about the school offering some type of tuition assistance. I also wanted to know if to get into this school English cannot be your native language. Please this is really important. Thank You.
How is need-based college financial aid determined? When institutions evaluate the eligibility of student for need-based financial aid/scholarship and how much he/she can get, what do they look at? Specificly, if the student's parents are divorced, and the student lives with the mother who has the physical custody of the student, do they look at the mother's household income, or do they look at the student's father's income as well? Thanks in advance for your expertise and insight.
I really need some financial aid/scholarships for college!!! help? im going to be a sophomore this fall. i didn't get much financial aid for this upcoming year. unfortunately the government decided that my parents make too much for them to give me any aid, however, although my parents do make slightly above average salaries, its not enough for them to completely pay for my school either (they are also paying a mortgage right now). i got to the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC). i don't dorm so my tuition is $14,000. i got $4,000 from grants so i need to come up with $10,000. I don't want to have to put the burden on my parents to pay it all. i would like to at least get another $5,000 in some kind of aid. does anyone know what i can do? do you know of any scholarships or grants i could apply to?? plz help
Colleges, Financial Aid, Scholarships, and Studying? This makes me feel stupid, for asking this question... but I will anyway. I am a junior in high school, and taking the SATs on June 7. If I am correct, to apply for a 2009-2010 FAFSA, it must be January 1, 2009. I am preparing for the SATs, so I'm not too worried about that, but I don't have the best GPA (it's gone down considerably this past year... I messed up. ]:), and I'd like some tips on how to get financial aid, grants, scholarships, etc. Or even studying tips, whatever. Any help is appreciated. =)
Are there any types of scholarships, financial aid, or fee waivers for summer courses you take at a college? I am a high school student who would like to take on more challenging courses next year, and I would like to take some summer courses in the classes that I would like to knock out. However, I realized they're far over my financial capabilities. Are there any types of financial help I can get besides getting a job? I already have one, but it doesn't pay much and I don't have too much time to spare to get another one. Does anyone know if they offer scholarships or financial aid for these summer courses?
College Scholarship/Financial Aid question? I'm quiet confused how this is supposed to work out. Let's say I got a full ride to a college from FAFSA + grants + school scholarship worth $20,000 because of financial aid After that, I win $10,000 more from scholarship (example: Coca Cola scholarship) Then what happens? Do I keep the $10,000?? Or do the school take back $10,000 in scholarship/grants and use the Coca cola scholarship to cover the fees? I'm quiet confused, please help, thanks!
What is a better way to pay for college? Financial Aid, Montgomery GI Bill or Scholarships? I was just curious from the general public about the question. After I graduated from high school I wanted to go to college. But, I had no funds of paying for it and I also had no idea of how scholarship system worked. So, I turned to the direction of the military to pay for my college. Not only that but I didn't take high school that serious. So, I figure that the military would help me become more mature. Something that will help me do well in college once I get out of the military. I have been in the United States Navy for more than 2 years now and I really have the desire to go continue with my education. I fully paid off my payments of the GI Bill (plus the extra $600 for the buy-up option). So, now I am guarantee to receive my GI Bill once I finish up my term with an honorable discharge. I have a girlfriend that is attending in college right now with a fully paid scholarship. It hit me that there are scholarships out there that fully pay off for books, classes, boarding and etc. Sometimes I feel that perhaps I didn't really need to rely on the military to pay off for my schooling since there are scholarships that fully pay for your education. But, then again at the time that I graduated from high school I had no idea of how the scholarship system worked. I had no one to help me out in the area. I just want to know if anyone could explain to me the advantages and disadvantages of a scholarship and the Montgomery GI Bill (for those who are using it). I would also want to know your opinion of whether you think it's better to pay for college with financial aid, Montgomery GI Bill or scholarships? Thanks
I need assistance with financial aid/scholarships, what are my options? My son will be a senior this fall (in high school) and I would like to start applying for financial aid for college. He is a talented basketball player and artist so he is also interested in financial aid as well as scholarships for Art schools as well. Whatever detailed information you can provide me with, I'd very much appreciate it. I just want to get a jump start on things if possible. Thank you all.
College scholarship, financial aid and student loan question...? I am a parent of a high school senior and worried about paying for college. My son is an AP student with a 96.2 avg. as of the end of his junior yr. He continues to challenge himself and surely will end up with over a 97 avg. upon graduation. He was worried about the cost and distance away from home of many colleges and only applied to colleges within 3 hrs. of our home in NY-thus limiting his choices. He has been accepted to all 4 of the colleges that he applied to...with 3 of the 4 offering a partial scholarship. We have just completed the application to FAFSA and are awaiting the summary of aid we are to be given. However, I anticipate it falling far short of our needs. I have been googling scholarship info for the past week and overwhelmed with all the sites there are. I am not computer saavy and worry about providing information to unscrupulous offers, compromising our security and wasting my time. My question is this...Does anyone know what scholarships, grants and student loans(where it is in the students name only) I can apply for, that are reputable? I also want to know if there are any benefits applicable to grandchildren of veterans(WWII) and how to apply? Lastly, Are there any lenders that offer student loans to the student themselves as books and computers are expenses that we cannot afford,at this time. Please help!!! TY Blue...But I'm concerned about links that make you apply, send out your info, only to have to reapply to the specific sites that contact you as a result. I already receive hundreds of e-mails regarding "apply for financial-aid" or "apply for scholorships". There is no way to keep track and know which e-mails/applications are a result of your site. I was looking for direct addresses to apply to reputable offers.
Anyone know of any colleges which give scholarships/financial aid to international students very generously? im a pretty good student, top 5% in class..but have mediocre SAT scores (1980). I have really good extra curriculars..represented my country for the world robotics olympiad, social work, and loads of other stuff. Can someone please advise me where to apply if im looking to major somewhere on the lines of biomedical engineering, biotechnology etc. I need financial aids or scholarships, which are hard to come by as i am from india. Thank you in advance :)
Where can a non-resident student get financial aid for college in California? My boyfriend just started college and since he was born in Mexico, unfortunately doesn't qualify for financial aid. He was approved to have his tuition reduced to the $26 per unit fee but it makes it hard to take multiple classes in one semester. If you know about ANY type of aid: scholarships, grants, etc, please let me know. By the way, he's attending Goldenwest College. Thank you.
Academic/financial aid college scholarship? I'm a sophomore at a prestigious catholic school in new orleans. I have a 3.7 accumaltive gpa and test well. I know I still have to take the SAT and ACT but I would like to receive some advice on how to find scholarship money. Thanks
Principles of College Financial Aid? Are scholarships and grants the safest way to receive financial aid? They do not require one to be in debt correct? Do prestigious colleges and universities offer a good percentage of financial aid? Take Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton as examples. Is it prudent to transfer money to other savings to lower income to increase financial aid? What scholarships can be offered to undergraduate minorities who have high GPAs?
College financial aid and scholarships?!? I just applied to my colleges and I'm applying for some scholarships. I found out that some schools take away some financial aid based on the scholarships you get. Does anyone know if Wesleyan, Tufts, TCNJ, Rutgers, or Upenn do that? I just need to know how much the scholarships affect financial aid.
Paying for college (merit scholarships/financial aid)? Hey everyone. I got into Siena college and I pretty sure I am going to go there, but I dont know how I am going to afford it. They offer merit scholarships, but I dont really know what those are? Are they just scholarships bases on grades? I almost fit the reqirements for the Franciscan Scholars at siena, but my sat combo was 1100, and you need 1130. does it really matter? :/ I did my FAFSA and got an EFC of 0. Would siena give me scholarships bases on that and my grades? I dont understand how i can get any money from the college except by taking out loans and applying for scholarships that have no relation to siena at all..
Mills College Children's School scholarships/financial aid? This question is about Mills College Children's School in Oakland,CA. Has anyone applied their child to this school? I've already done application and the financial aid/scholarship. They called us to bring our son to meet him and observe him in a classroom setting. He will be entering kindergarten next Sep. My son has been in Montessori since 2 years. I'm nervous about what they base the excepting your child on. And has anybody received a scholarship from them and how much? We now pay $500 a month for him to attend pre school 9-noon. The tuition at MCCS is $1300 a month. Anybody have any input? Thanks so much!!!
Would I be eligible for a scholarship? Or financial aid for college? I picked the college that I want to go to, and I meet all of the requirements. In high school, I had straight A's all four years, and had a GPA of approximately 4.5 all four years. But my mom's income is just $19,500 annually, so I couldn't afford my college if I couldn't get any financial aid, of any scholarships. So does it seem like I would be eligible for at least one of the two? (If it helps, the college I want to attend is the University of Washington in Seattle.)

What income is poor enough for college financial aid? Hi, next year I'll be applying to Georgetown (my dream school), but i noticed that they dont give out any merit based scholarships except for sports (which dosent apply to me). However, Georgetown does offer financial aid. How poor does one have to be to qualify for financial aid? My dad is a cabinet maker and my mom is a nurse, and together they earn about $100,000 before taxes. I have a brother and a sister that also need to go to college in 2-3 years. We have no college savings, but we do have A LOT of credit card debt. I know I'm not poor, its just that we can in no way afford Georgetown! If accepted, is it likely that I will get financial aid?
How else can you pay for college besides scholarships and financial aid? So I just got into my dream school ... but it cost $47,000. My family can 10,000 and the school is giving me 18,000 ... but thats still $19,000. I have been signing up for scholarships through scholarships.com and fastweb.com and I applied for FAFSA ... but that doesn't seem to be cutting it. I feel like there is this big secret I am missing out on how to pay for it. I don't want to take out any more than $5,000 a year in student loans. Any suggestions?!
What financial aid/scholarships websites provide minority scholarships? I'm part Filipino, Chinese, and Black. Therefore I want to get minority scholarships to pay for college this upcoming school year. I filed the FAFSA but haven't yet sent in my SAR (Student Aid Report). Please tell me more about the FAFSA too and other interesting scholarships. *BEST ANSWER GETS 10 POINTS!*

Should the government give financial aid for college to non-americans, legal or not? I'm tired of working my butt off paying for college, and i'm still going to get out of here with a student loan dept, where as these people from other countries can hardly speak english and yet they have scholarships and government financial aid to go to a public state university. Its aggrivating!!! And they wonder how terrorists were right here in America!!!
Does the financial aid application apply to all grants and scholarships? My daughter is about to enter college. She filled out the FASA application and was denied.Since she has already filled out the FASA application, what should she do next to get grants, scholarships or other aid to help pay for college? Is the financial aid office going to help her with all the monies available for her,or is there other places or agencies that she need to be applying for these monies? What are her other choices out there?

Financial Aid and College? I am going to Columbia College Chicago. I got a sheet right after I graduated saying I go no scholarships, financial aid, or grants but I can take out some loans. I had a relative say that colleges say stuff like that and they can jerk you around a lot. What are the odds I'll get money from them?
Should I even bother applying for college financial aid? I was going to apply for financial aid and fill out my FAFSA profile and all that but I missed the deadline for one of my schools. However, my dad told me not to even bother filling it out. He said that since he makes a really really good salary, I'd probably not get anything. Should I even bother or should I look for scholarships? Thanks.
When to apply for scholarship and financial aid ? I am a senior in high school, and i think i won't make it to a university and so i am planning to go to a community college and transfer after two years. so basically i won't need financial aid in community college because it's cheap. but i will need it in my two years in university. when do i apply for financial aid scholarship? like after i am in the second year of my community college?
