Grants and Scholarships

Where can I find student grants to become a teacher?

I was told that there are a lot of grants for students that want to become teachers but I can't seem to find any.

  1. If you're interested in becoming a Montessori teacher, there's a program that offers full scholarships and online work study called www.usamontessori.org. I have heard good things about it and am looking into it for myself!
  2. I know there are grants for single mothers...may not apply to you. There are also programs for people who already have a degree--and want to become a teacher. You might look at your state's education agency--Texas education agency is mine, NEA National Education Agency or any other government site. You might even look at the colleges you want to attend and see if they have this type of financial aid available. I do know that lots of people with degrees are becoming teachers(why?) Probably because it is considered a more secure profession, without layoffs, etc...Many may think it is an "easier" profession...I would suggest to those that they go and substitute teach many times before even considering being a teacher. If you think education is like it was when you were in school--its not--it continuously changing and the bar gets higher and higher. Unfortunately, kids also have many more problems nowadays that affect their learning. You wear many hats counselor, mediator, nurse, disciplinarian, etc...If all you had to do was teach--it would be a piece of cake. Trust me it is NOT an easy job. But the profession does need special people to be good role models for these kids.
  3. Also you could check out http://usa.artsgrantsfinder.com for a huge database of funding and grant opportunities... Good Luck!
