Grants and Scholarships

How can an international student pay for graduate school in the US?

Is it only possible if they come from a rich family? What about students from poor countries? Are there any scholarship or grant options for an international student looking to complete a PhD in Computer Science in California/elsewhere in the US? MS in Computer Science has already been completed.

  1. Many, many international students do indeed come from money, either from their families or their governments. Anyone who comes to the U.S. takes on a huge financial burden (travel, living expenses, non-resident tuition and fees) so plans are in place to take on that burden before the student arrives in the U.S. International students should appeal to their own governments for support. The U.S. is under no obligation to provide financial assistance to iternational stuents. I am not familiar with any non-profit organizations that serve to provide that kind of tuition support international students. A student with an MS in CS might be able to get some assistance from the school itself in the way of a teaching or graduate assistantship.
