Grants and Scholarships

Looking for Graduate School Funds?

I am a 37 yr old single, childless female, who makes under 20K at this time, and I'm going back to school this fall for a graduate degree to be a librarian at a state university. I would like to know if anyone out there knows of any reliable websites or any specific grants or scholarships for librarians and/or graduates students who are women. Thanks for any input :)

  1. To be honest with you, the number of scholarships out there for graduate school is very limited. The vast majority of scholarships are geared towards high school students and undergraduates. The Pell Grant is gone at the graduate school level. However, with that said, it is not impossible to find scholarships for graduate school. First, fill out the FAFSA form. It will tap into need based financial aid from the college itself and also the work study program. The form becomes available to the public for the fall semester/quarter on January 1. Second, the college's financial aid office and website should have a list of private scholarships offered from companies and outside organizations. Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered into a form on its website. Good luck!
  2. Here's a website which lists US colleges which offer MLS degrees. This site's focus is "distance learning", but offers information which might help you: http://www.becomealibrarian.org/DistanceEdComparison.htm If you click on a school - Florida State Univ., for example- and then on "financial aid", you'll see details on scholarships, grants, and loans for the school. Best to you.
