Baylor or University of North Texas?
Okay so first off I'm not asking you guys to decide which college I should go to I just would like to get more details information on it. I recently graduated from high school and didn't really know which college I would attend so I applied at a few including Baylor Univeristy [which i only applied to because the application was free.. I never really imagined getting accepted]. Well I got accepted to Baylor and they offered me about $17,000 in free money [scholarships, grants, etc.]. I wasnt really sure if I should go or not so I turned them down & now im attending a community college for this fall semester just to give myself more time.. I plan on transferring to Baylor or UNT next semester.. I personally would like UNT alot better but my parents continue to tell me that Baylor is a hard school to get into and I sholud take the opportunity. I have nothing against Baylor I've just head alot about the campus life [ like how they make freshman go to church every week and how srict it is] I dnt mind church but im not that deep into my religion yet and I dnt want it forced on me. Ive done alot of research on UNT and I see they have alot to offer me with less than half the cost of Baylor [oh yea money is an iportant factor because im the oldest of 6 kids and my parents dnt have college funds for any of us]. My mom thinks that im only looking at UNT because my bestfriend is goin there [I have 2 best friends and to be honest the one thats going to UNT is not my favorite bestie]. I guess what im trying to ask is for you to shed some light into Baylor for me and tell me is there truth to the forcing church thing and which college you would pick and why [even if i go to UNT ill prolly go to Baylors Medicine College for medical school].

- Wow-i had this same dilemma! I wanted to do nursing and then i switched to a bachelor of arts degree in french with a teacher's certification. Baylor is an excellent school, but they are very religious and expensive as well. A big part of my decision was also that i plan to join a sorority and i found that UNT's chapter was more to my liking and so were there academics...i just fell like i fit IN more at UNT than i would at Baylor. I like the environment and the feel of UNT more than i do baylor. I have a friend that is going to Baylor for the Dentistry program and she likes it-but then again her parents are loaded and that's her religion. lol. But im at a community college for now and i'll be transferring to UNT in the fall of next year. I know what its like to have your parents pressuring you, but in the end you gotta do what YOU WANT TO DO. Its your life-don't be unhappy just to make your parents happy....especially if they're not contributing any funds to your education. My parents did some really annoying stuff: my dad wanted me to do law, my mom wanted me to be a doctor. they both think a sorority is a bad idea, blah blah blah blah blah. and at the end of the day, im doing me because they've never been to college so how would they know anything about it? I mean no disrespect towards my parents but i know where i wanna go to college and what i wanna do with my life and if you are the same way, i'd say for for UNT if that's what's really in your heart. If the church thing makes you uneasy or it feels forced upon you, then you'll probably be miserable the first year you're there....its all up to you though. I wish you all the best! Good Luck!
- Baylor's premed program is much better. UNT is working to improve theirs. Consider your future.
