Grants and Scholarships

What are some specifics for college financial aid?

I'm a sophomore at a decent public high school in Texas. I have exceptionally high grades (about averages a 97 or 98 in the most advanced courses available), I'm pretty sure I'll do great on SAT/ACT and I'm looking to do early planning for college (I'm pretty sure I'll go to UT at Austin.) I've been told "Fill out the FAFSA" and "Apply for stuff" but nobody has really given me any specifics. Basically I'm wondering what all grants should I apply for once I fill out the FAFSA? How do I get grants/scholarships from my SAT scores? What specifically do I need to do other for specific grants and whatnot?

  1. You don't have to apply for specific grants. The FAFSA applies for all federal grants. This application is strictly based on income. All you need to fill it out is yours and your parents' tax information. As for scholarships, the best place to look first is at the school you're wanting to attend. Most schools have seperate scholarship applications that you can apply for after you're accepted. Often times these are based on grades, test scores and need. You can't fill either form out yet though since you're only a sophomore. Another good place to look for scholarships is fastweb.com. It matches you up with scholarships you might be eligible for based on your career goals, college and other factors.
  2. I could not give you specific details because each scholarship has different requirements and rules. Some friends of mine in college told me that they have valuable information regarding scholarships from this place. Good luck
