Out of State Tuition Fees?

Hi I visited collegeboard.com bc I am interested in transferring schools. I am currently a student at NSU in La and am interested in transferring to Texas State University in San Marcos. It says that the Out of State fees would be 14,786. So I am curious to know if that is for each semester.Maybe I am misreading. Also is it possible to get loans to help cover some of those fees? At the college that I already attend, I recieve pell grants, scholarship, and loans. So will that increase since the other school is more expensive. http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/compare_schools.jsp?

  1. The reason for the increases is because you do not have residency. What you can do is take time off from school, move there to gain residency and then sign up next year. But then that puts you a year behind in your educational plan/goal. Call the school's financial aid office, let them know your situation, and see what they can do for you. They are there to help. (Hell, that's what they get paid to do) Good luck!
  2. the 14,786 includes the fall and spring both and does not include dorm room or meal plans, books or misc expenses. Include these and you should add an extra 10,000+ to the cost of attending. And yes it is possible to get financial aid to cover some of the costs, but not everyone may get enough to cover all of it. The maximum federal loan amounts are still the same regardless of instate or out of state residency. (4,500 per year if you are a soph, up to 5,500 if you are a Jr or Sr) So it would depend on how much you get in Pell and scholarships.
