Grants and Scholarships

What are grants, scholarships, and bursaries?

All I know is that they have to do with getting money for university. What are they exactly, how much money do you get from these, and how? Thanks.

  1. from my own experience this is what each one is. a scholarship is usually a placement in a given course given (and funded) by the university themselves. usually awarded to gifted students. you apply for a scholarship and compete with others for that same placement on the course you want. a grant (maintenance grant) is a payment given to you by the government to hep you with the costs of higher education. you will be elegible to apply for this, as everyone is, but may not receive the full amount. the amount you receive will go on the household income. the payment can be up to £2,835. you do not pay this back. a bursary is a payment awarded by a university to students as they have decided to up thier tuition costs. the government allowed university's to up thier fees, so long as they provided students with some funding support. if you receive the full grant mentioned above than your bursary will be higher. you do not pay this back. for more info go to http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/index.htm and click on the university and higher education tab for more info.
