Are my SAT scores good enough?
I have a slacker GPA of 3.35 and my toughest classes include, World Literature (Dual, College and HS credit), Calculus AP, Economics and Government (Dual), World History AP (scored a 3 on the test), US History (Dual), College Algebra and Trig (Dual), and Composition (Dual). My other qualifications are unmentioned. Critical Reading 560 Math 520 Writing 570 Total = 1650 My first choice, which I have applied to, is the University of Texas at Austin Second choice, which I have applied to, is Baylor University Third choice is either University of North Texas, Texas Tech or Texas A&M Choices really depend on money, scholarships and grants.

- Hello Justin Go to College Matchmaker, enter your information and SAT scores, and for location put Texas. See which schools are admitting students with your qualifications. Any ideas on majors? Also, I see that you are looking at least one private school [Baylor]. You might also want to look at Concordia in Austin - very good, small fully accredited college on a beautiful campus.
- That can easily be checked in a college directory. They will give you a point spread. Just because you are better than the worst they will take does not mean you will get in. I suggest you try the ACT. The SAT is veryy tricky. You can know how to do the problem and get tricked. The ACT is not that way. Slacking boys often do much better with ACTs. My son when from a 40 percentile to an 85 percentile.
- Are you in the top 10% of your class? If so, then you are automatically admitted to all of these Universities! lol. If not, then you will get accepted to UNT, Tech, and Baylor. Depending on your ranking and extracurriculars, you might get into UT and A&M, but the chances are pretty small since these are the second and third ranked public schools in the state of Texas respectively. I got a 2130 on my SAT, and got accepted to Baylor and A&M (A&M because of automatic admission), and I didn't bother to apply to UNT or Tech. I also applied to UT, but I doubt that I will get in because there are so many people outside the top 10% who have SAT's over 2200, like my friend, who applied to UT, and is top 12% of our class, 2200 SAT, 31 ACT, and has over 250 hours of community service. He has yet to hear back from UT also. =/ So yeah, UT and A&M might be pretty big reaches, but still apply because I do think you have some shot at both schools. Good luck with your endeavors, and even if you don't get into UT or A&M; Baylor, Tech and UNT are all pretty good Universities, well maybe not UNT, but the other two definitely are! lol.
