How to apply for college/scholarships?
I am going to be a senior in high school this year, and this whole college thing kind of sneaked up on me. I don't really know what I need to do to apply for college, etc. I am thinking of going to UW Madison, and their application deadline is in early September. Any tips for my application? Also, for scholarships, do I need to apply for them, or are they just given? Thanks!

- i'm going to be a junior, and i just know that yes, you'll have to apply for scholarships
- For the application just make sure to have it in on time, or earlier if possible. Meeting their early admission deadline will give you the best chance to gain admission. Depending on state scholarships and such, some will be awarded after reports are sent in to the state from your high school. For the most part you will have to apply for scholarships by filling out applications on websites like fastweb.com or getting applications from the college you want to attend. To apply for federal/state grants, make sure to fill out the FAFSA after January 1.
- Apply for government loans or grants(free money) with your parents tax return by filling out a FAFSA at fafsa.ed.gov. Be sure to include ALL the school codes for every school your applying for. Do NOT pay for fafsa to be filled out or for scholarship applications. A good place for scholarships is fastweb.com, but there are many other sites. On time applications are a must, plus get ready to prove your a resident for resident tuition (parents taxes/vehicle registration/license) and make sure you to have cash to pay for application fees, transfer fees, etc. Plus, ask if the school itself has scholarships and apply for those once accepted. Make sure to talk to an adviser once you have been accepted to make sure that you are register for the CORRECT classes, but most of this is done online.
