Grants and scholarships totaling more than school cost for the year?
I have received a pell grant for $5,500; a Texas grant for $6,780;and scholarships totaling $4,750 also a loan for $1,751 for the upcoming school year. Cost of attendance is minus room and board is 13,811. My aid total is 18,351 Will it be adjusted to 13,811 or will the money be put aside for the following year?

- Hope this helps. http://theloansonline.blogspot.com/ Thanks.
- When awarding financial aid most schools take into consideration room, board, supplies, books, etc into the cost of attendance. You can look on your schools financial aid website to find what your estimated cost of attendance is for your level (Fresh,Soph, Jr, Sen). So even if your tuition is only 13,811 your total cost of attendance may be like 20,000 (this number is just made up). So you can get financial aid up to 20,000. They'll take 13,811 for your tuition and will refund you the rest in the form of a check or a deposit into your checking/savings account or whatever your school uses. They assume you'll use the funds you receive for room and board, books, and other school stuff - even though you might not. But if you still have doubts go speak to a financial aid counselor.
- dude, accept only the grants and reject the loan. your grants will cover your costs. since all your expenses are covered, you do not need to get the loans. the money is a bit more because they include money for your upkeep, gas, food etc. so you'r set for success. you are lucky because some people in similar circumstances can not even get a cent!
- The additional grant money can be used towards school expenses throughout the year. You will not be required to repay your grants back to the government or school.
